Robert F. Dowd, 79, of Springvale died on Monday, December 18, 2017 at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough after a long courageous battle fighting a long term illness.He was born on October 17, 1938 to the late Bernard and Alice (Vandezee) Dowd in Staten Island, NY. The family moved to Kennebunk when he was three years old, where he attend school and graduated from Kennebunk High School. He attended Maine Central Institute for a time, and then enlisted in the U.S. Navy.He worked for a time as a meat cutter, then spent many years as the proprietor of a convenience store, a painting business, and a landlord over several apartment buildings.Bob enjoyed fly fishing and hunting and was an all around outdoorsman. He also enjoyed sports and was a Patriots and Redsox fan. He played football at prep school and held state records in track and field at Kennebunk High School. Being a social and outgoing person, Bob was a member of the American Legion, the Lafayette Social Club, having served as past president for several years, the Wolves Club and the Springvale Social Club and Elk's Lodge.He will be remembered as a friendly man who everyone liked and will be missed.Survivors include three children, Lori A. Nadeau and her husband Michael of Alfred, Michael Dowd and his wife Traci of Kennebunkport, Sean Dowd, and his wife Kimberly, a grandson Andrew Nadeau, a granddaughter Natalie A.
