Lionel N. Dion

Lionel N. Dion, "The Coconut", 93, a lifelong resident of Springvale, passed away on Thursday, April 8, 2010 at the H.D. Goodall Hospital. He was born in Canada on August 28, 1916, a son of the late Eloi and Olevine (Vaillancourt) Dion. He moved to Springvale with his parents and six siblings as a child and became a US citizen at the age of 12 years old. He attended Notre Dame School in Springvale and was a lifelong communicant of the parish.He served in the US Army and retired from the shipyard in 1972. Throughout his career at the shipyard he was awarded numerous recognitions for his work as a welder. Lionel enjoyed playing hockey, being with his family and spending his summers at Wells beach. He is greatly loved and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.Lionel is survived by one son, Danny P. Dion and his wife, Bette of North Berwick, two granddaughters, Lisa Plourde of Wells and Danielle Healey of Berwick, four great grandchildren, Katie, Lindsay, Autumn and Carter.Visiting hours for Lionel will take place on Wednesday, April 14th from 4 to 7PM at the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home, 580 Main Street, Springvale, with a funeral service taking place at the funeral home on Thursday at 11AM.
