Robert J. Roux
September 15, 1930 ~ October 13, 2026
Born in: Sanford, Maine
Resided in: Springvale, Maine
The fish of Mousam Lake and the deer of the woods of North Waterboro are bowing their heads in respect to a great hunter and fisherman, Robert “Bob” Roux. Bob passed away on Tuesday, October 13th at the age of 96 surrounded by his loving family. We believe that heaven is a place where Jesus welcomes you to be reunited with those who have gone before you and Bob is rejoicing with his wife of 70 years, Beatrice, and his son Richard on a lake, with a fishing boat, and nearby woods to hunt.
Robert Roux was born at home in Sanford, Maine on September 15, 1930. It was the height of the Great Depression when his parents, Arthur and Rosanna Roux, welcomed their 10th child. The family had their own farm and the men hunted and fished to provide food for the family. Bob was very close to his Dad and really enjoyed their time together in the woods. Bob was raised in a devout Catholic family, which included two more siblings after he was born, Gerard and Dorothy. Bob was predeceased by his wife, Beatrice, his son, Richard, his favorite Irish son-in-law, Brian Flanagan, his parents, Arthur and Rosanna, and siblings, Romeo, Laurette, Irene, Roland, Emile, Lillian, Jean, Lucille, Rita, and Gerard. He is survived by his sister Dorothy Turmelle of Somersworth, NH. He is also survived by his children, Marlene Flanagan, Stephen Roux (wife Susan), William Roux (partner Mark Mitobe), Rosemary Dionne (husband Leo) Kevin Roux (wife Lisa) and daughter-in-law, Gail Roux. He is further survived by his 10 grandchildren, Jacob Roux, Heather Legere, Michael Flanagan, Brady Flanagan, Tyler Roux, Andrew Flanagan, Luke Dionne, Natalie Dionne Rollins, Olivia Roux, Sydney Roux and great-grandchildren, Hadley and Paisley Legere, Anders Cyr, Knox and Kennedy Flanagan, Emmet, Adrian and Andre Flanagan, Leo and Logan Roux, Tilliana and Lincoln Dionne, and Roux Beatrice Rollins.
Bob attended Holy Family School and after completing the 9th grade, started working in the local woolen mills where he met his wife, Beatrice. Bob joined the Navy at the age of 19 along with his younger brother, Gerard. On December 1, 1951 Bob and Beatrice married and welcomed their son, Richard in 1952. After being honorably discharged from the Navy in 1954, Bob began working as a pattern designer for women’s shoes. This was a career he enjoyed until his retirement at the age of 55. Two of his sons, Richard and Steve, followed him in this career path and became well respected in their field. Kevin also followed in Dad’s footsteps and proudly served in the United States Navy for 24 years. Dad built our family home on Morning Street in Sanford as well as three cottages on Mousam Lake where our family enjoyed many summers at “Pep’s Pool”. In retirement, Bob and Bea spent 27 years wintering in New Smyrna Beach, Florida where he was was standing in the ocean surf casting just about every day.
For the past 4 years Bob has resided at The Lodges in Springvale, Maine, where he created a new family with residents and staff. He was also cared for by Affinity Hospice. Our family is very grateful for the care and support Bob received in his final days.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Therese of Lisieux Church on North Avenue in Sanford, Maine at 10:00 a.m. on October 23, 2026. Interment will be held at Southern Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Springvale Maine.
