Susan "Suz" Elizabeth Lamb

Susan “Suz” Elizabeth Lamb, 55, of Portland, Maine, passed away at her residence on September 11, 2026.

Suz was born on November 1, 1970, in San Diego, California, to Susan Marie Lamb. She spent her early childhood in California before moving to New Jersey where she gave birth to her son Charles and then to Maine, where she made her home for the rest of her life. She lived in Brunswick, Farmington, and Portland, forming lasting friendships and touching the lives of many along the way.

She graduated from Brunswick High School and Southern Maine Technical College, where she studied Culinary Arts. Suz devoted much of her career to the food service industry, working as a chef and in a variety of culinary positions throughout the Portland area. She took pride in preparing meals that brought people together and found joy in serving others through her work. Early in her career as a chef at the Holiday Inn by the Bay she won an award for ‘The Best Chocolate Specialty’ prepared for the annual Chocolate Lovers Fling & Auction benefit event. She also loved cooking meals for her son Charlie and other family members and friends.

Suz was preceded in death by her father, Douglass Freeman of Farmington, and by her grandparents, Perry and Barbara Lamb of Brunswick and New Sharon.

She is survived by her beloved son, Charles Shafto of Portland; her mother, Susan Marie Lamb of Freeport; and her stepbrother, Eagle Dye of Grass Valley, California.

Suz will be remembered by her family and her many friends as a sweet, kind, and caring person who was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. Her generous heart, warm spirit, and genuine compassion for others left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know her. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered, most especially by her best friend Sarah Thibeau and her step-father Alan Weiner.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 5:00pm on Friday October 9, 2026 in the community room at Elm Terrace, 68 High Street Portland, ME.

The family is also planning a Spring memorial gathering in the Farmington area with date & location TBD.
