Leslie Toothaker

AUBURN – Leslie Toothaker, 79, formerly of Cape Elizabeth, passed away on September 19, 2026. Born in Brunswick, Maine, Leslie was the eldest of five children born to Clifford and Erna Toothaker. He was a proud graduate of Portland High School and went on to serve his country in the United States Navy.

Leslie spent many years working in the automobile industry, with the majority of his career at Frank Galos Chevrolet, where he eventually retired. His greatest accomplishment, however, was the life and family he built with the love of his life, Loretta. They shared 59 wonderful years of marriage and created a lifetime of memories together. They were blessed with one daughter, Tammy.

Leslie was a devoted husband, father, brother, and family man. He loved his family and extended family deeply and treasured every opportunity to spend time with them. He especially enjoyed the simple moments at home—playing Aggravation and other games, sharing stories, laughing, and simply being together.

He enjoyed hunting, watching football, baseball, camping, and spending time at Moosehead Lake. Leslie also loved to travel and was fortunate to make many special memories with those he loved. He enjoyed a European cruise, traveled to Hawaii, and spent wonderful time in Florida with Loretta, Tammy, and her husband, Greg. One especially memorable experience was attending the World Series with his wife, brother-in-law and sister-in-law to watch his nephew’s team play.

Leslie was preceded in death by his parents, Clifford and Erna Toothaker; in-laws James and Myra Napolitano; sister-in-law, Alice Toothaker; and brother-in-law, Philip Desjardins.

He will be deeply missed by his beloved wife Loretta; his daughter, Tammy, and her husband, Greg Morton; his brothers and sister, Mark and wife Wendy, Keith, Kris and husband Peter, and Scott and wife Linda; extended family members sister-in-law Einger and brother-in-law Jimmy and wife Peggy; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews and friends.

Leslie will be remembered for his love of family, his enjoyment of life’s simple pleasures, and the many wonderful memories he created with the people who meant the most to him. His greatest joy was being with his family, and the love he gave them will remain with them always.

He leaves behind a lifetime of love, laughter, stories, and memories that will be cherished forever.

Visiting Hours will be held on Friday, September 25 from 4-6PM at the Conroy-Tully Walker Funeral Home of South Portland, 1024 Broadway, South Portland. Prayers will be recited on Saturday, September 26 at 10AM at the Funeral Home followed by a 11AM Mass of Christian Burial at St. Bartholomew Church, 6 Two Lights Road, Cape Elizabeth. Interment with Military Honors will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Broadway, South Portland.
