Marguerite M. Stanley

Marguerite “Maggie” M. Stanley, 91, of Springvale, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 29, 2026, following a brief illness at MaineHealth Maine Medical Center in Portland.

Maggie was born in Waltham, Massachusetts, to E. Leo and Mary (Chapin) Frazier. She grew up primarily in Waltham before her family moved to Springvale in 1950. She attended Sargent College in Boston, where she majored in physical education.

On August 24, 1953, she married the love of her life, Richard Stanley, and together they shared 50 years of marriage until his passing in 2009.

In 1970, Maggie began her real estate business at her kitchen table in the family home on Hanson’s Ridge. In 1973, she and Richard moved to Butler’s Corner, where her business flourished. Over the next 50 years, Maggie built a successful career in real estate and tax preparation, continuing to serve her clients until just recently.

Maggie was a trailblazer in the local business community. She was the first woman to serve as president of the Sanford-Springvale Chamber of Commerce and served on its board of directors. She was named York County Realtor of the Year, Past Chairman of the board of York County Board of Realtors, and was among the first women inducted into the Sanford Rotary Club.

Outside of work, Maggie enjoyed many things. She loved doing puzzles, reading, and playing Scrabble with friends. She enjoyed visiting casinos and taking memorable trips to Las Vegas with her sister, Anne, where she especially enjoyed seeing the shows, including Celine Dion. She and Richard also took yearly trips out West, creating many special memories together.

A devoted New England sports fan, Maggie was an avid New England Patriots supporter and thoroughly enjoyed baseball, especially cheering on the Boston Red Sox. She also loved spending time with family and friends around her pool, which became a favorite gathering place during the warmer months.

Maggie was an animal lover, especially when it came to dogs. She was known for her wonderful sense of humor, as well as for being kind, intelligent, generous, and always willing to help others. She was also famous for her delicious whoopie pies. Family was especially important to her, and she was always involved in cheering on her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She took great pride in their accomplishments and loved being a part of their lives.

Maggie was predeceased by her beloved husband, Richard Stanley; her parents; her sister, Anne Welch; and her brother, Edward “Ted” Frazier.

She is survived by her children, Cheryl Vachon of Springvale; Richard Stanley and his wife, Susan, of Springvale; and Cathy “Kit” White and her husband, John, of Sanbornville, New Hampshire; her grandchildren, Norman Roy, Robert Vachon, Dori Brooks, Michelle Gauthier, Dr. Michael Stanley, Sarah Stanley, and Matthew White; and her great-grandchildren, Abigail, Andrew, Evan, Skyler, Olivia, John Robert, Jennifer, Dustin, and Alison.

She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Pat Frazier; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Dan and Linda Stanley and John and Beatrice Stanley; many nieces and nephews; her close friends, George Marcoux, Barbara Maheux, and Lisa Baron; her business partner, Ron Demers; and her soon-to-be granddaughter-in-law, Taylor Johnson, who was very special to her.

Maggie’s quick wit, generous heart, intelligence, and love for her family and friends will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Visiting hours will be held on Saturday, September 19, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., followed by a memorial service at 12:00 p.m.
