In Loving Memory of David Wayne Chretien

With profound sadness and deep love, we announce the passing of David Wayne Chretien, who died on August 27, 2026.

David leaves behind the love of his life and his wife of 36 years, Kimberly Belanger Chretien, who was truly his world. He is also survived by his brother, Bruce Chretien and his wife, Darleen; his brother-in-law, Brian Belanger and his wife, Kim Smith Belanger; his beloved nephews, Jesse Belanger and his wife, Heather, Mike Belanger, and Brandon Chretien; his nieces, Kayla Belanger and her partner, Branch Ellison, and Carly Chretien; and his cherished great-nephews, Sawyer Belanger and Bodhin Belanger-Ellison. He is also survived by Theresa (Chretien) Langevin and Peter Langevin and their family.

David was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Marcel and Mona (Saucier) Chretien.

For more than 20 years, David was a part owner of Ability Equipment, where he became a respected and valued presence in the New England hospitality industry. David was known for his incredible work ethic, unwavering dedication, and commitment to his customers. To David, his customers were never just customers—they were people he genuinely cared about, and many became friends. He loved his work and took great pride in serving others.

David was an avid hunter and fisherman, enjoying the outdoors and the adventures that came with it. His life changed dramatically following a tragic car accident in 2009, but David faced the challenges that followed with remarkable strength and determination. To the younger kids in the family, he earned nicknames like “Iron Man,” a fitting tribute to his toughness and resilience.

David was a generous man who never sought recognition or accolades for the things he did. He simply did what he could for the people he loved. He was immensely proud of his family and loved them dearly. He also had a talent for cooking and found joy in sharing good food and good times with those around him.

In recent years, David took opportunities to travel with his brother, creating memories that will be cherished forever. He recently returned from what was truly a trip of a lifetime to Alaska.

Above all else, Kim was David’s world. Their 36 years together were filled with love, partnership, and countless memories. While her heart is broken by his loss, Kim finds comfort in knowing that David’s body is no longer burdened by the daily pain he endured.

David will be remembered for his strength, generosity, determination, work ethic, sense of humor, and, most importantly, the deep love he had for his family and friends. His presence will be profoundly missed, but the memories, stories, laughter, and love he leaves behind will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him.

A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, October 3 at 10:00 a.m. at St Therese of Lisieux Parish, Holy Family Church, 66 North Ave, Sanford, ME, with a burial at Oakdale Cemetery immediately following.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations in David’s memory to the Ronald McDonald House in Portland, Maine, whose kindness and love provided comfort and support to the family during medical challenges over the years.
