Nancy D. L'Heureux

Nancy D. L’Heureux, 75, of Alfred, entered peacefully into the loving arms of her Savior on Monday, July 27, 2026, with her devoted husband by her side at the RiverRidge Center in Kennebunk following a period of declining health.

Born in Sanford on April 14, 1951, Nancy was the daughter of Leo and Rita (Parent) Bourassa. She grew up in Sanford, attended local schools, and graduated from Sanford High School with the Class of 1969.

On a beautiful day in 1970, Nancy married the love of her life, Jerry L’Heureux, at Holy Family Parish in Sanford. Together they built a marriage rooted in faith, love, and unwavering commitment, sharing 55 wonderful years together while raising their beloved son. Their marriage was a testament to the sacred vows they exchanged before God, serving as an example of enduring love for all who knew them.

Nancy’s Catholic faith was the cornerstone of her life. It guided every decision she made, shaped the way she treated others, and gave her strength through life’s joys and challenges. Her relationship with God was evident not only in the words she spoke but in the countless acts of kindness, compassion, and generosity she quietly offered each day. She faithfully served her parish for many years, first through her employment in the parish office and at St. Thomas School, and through her many ministries at church. She was an active member of the Family Life Commission and faithfully served as both a lector and Eucharistic minister. Whether proclaiming God’s Word, distributing Holy Communion to others, or lending a helping hand wherever she was needed, Nancy lived her faith with humility, grace, and joy.

Throughout her working life, Nancy held several positions in the insurance and banking industries before answering a calling to work for Holy Family Parish. Serving both the parish office and St. Thomas School brought together her love for her faith and her desire to serve others, and she remained there until her retirement.

Nancy had a remarkable love of learning and was an avid reader, having read more than 800 books during her lifetime. She enjoyed completing puzzles, reading and playing games on her Kindle and iPad, and treasured evenings with a good book. She delighted in playing bingo and looked forward to trips to Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun. Shopping excursions, especially those shared with her beloved mother and her dear friend Muriel, brought her great happiness.

She loved to travel and created treasured memories on trips to the White Mountains, Myrtle Beach, and Broadway, where she enjoyed attending musicals and theatrical productions. One of Nancy’s greatest gifts was preserving her family’s history. She lovingly maintained scrapbooks filled with photographs, newspaper clippings, keepsakes, and memorabilia chronicling the lives of her family and extended family. She also faithfully kept detailed journals documenting the events of her own life, leaving behind an extraordinary legacy for future generations.

While Nancy enjoyed many hobbies and interests, nothing was more important to her than the people she loved. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who always placed her family first. Her grandchildren brought her immeasurable pride and joy, and she cherished every opportunity to celebrate their accomplishments and share in their lives.

Nancy possessed a rare gift for making others feel loved and remembered. She was quick to offer a phone call, send a thoughtful card, or write one of her many heartfelt letters of encouragement to anyone she believed needed comfort or reassurance. She believed deeply that God called His people to lift one another up, and she faithfully answered that call throughout her life. Her warmth, genuine interest in others, infectious smile, and wonderful sense of humor made her a friend to many. She had a way of brightening every room she entered and left an enduring impression on all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Nancy’s life was a beautiful reflection of Christ’s love. She demonstrated that true greatness is found in serving others, loving unconditionally, and remaining steadfast in faith. Her kindness, generosity, and unwavering trust in God will continue to inspire her family and friends for generations to come. Although her presence will be deeply missed, those who loved her find comfort in knowing that her earthly journey has been completed and that she now rests in the eternal peace.

Nancy was predeceased by her sister, Jeanne Grant.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 55 years, Jerry L’Heureux of Alfred; her son, Bob L’Heureux and his wife, Heidi, of Scarborough; her cherished grandchildren, Brandon, Connor, and Grace L’Heureux, all of Scarborough; her brothers, Robert Bourassa and his wife, Claire, and James Bourassa and his wife, Joanne, all of Sanford; as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday, August 5th at St. Therese of Lisieux Parish, Holy Family Church, 66 North Avenue, Sanford. Interment will follow at the Southern Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery on Stanley Road in Springvale.

In the words of St. Paul that Nancy lived so faithfully: “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” (2 Timothy 4:7) Her race is now complete, and she has received the crown of righteousness promised by the Lord whom she loved and served so faithfully.
