Evelyn Halloway

Evelyn Halloway, 90, of Sanford, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 27, 2026, at MaineHealth Maine Medical Center in Portland.

She was born on March 22, 1936, in Monmouth, Maine, one of seven children of William and Gertrude (Curran) Chick. She grew up in Monmouth and attended local schools, graduating from Monmouth Academy, where she was a majorette.

It was during her high school years that Evelyn met the love of her life, Richard Halloway. The two were married and shared more than 70 wonderful years together until his passing in 2025. In 1973, they moved to the Sanford area following Richard’s work and made the community their home.

Evelyn spent her career working for the State of Maine, with the majority of her years dedicated to the Unemployment Office in Sanford.

Evelyn was a woman who loved life and was always on the go. She was always busy and could rarely sit still. She enjoyed gardening and tending to her flowers, shopping, knitting, and crocheting. She also took pride in having a clean house. Above all, Evelyn was a loving and caring person who cherished her family.

In addition to her husband, Richard, she was predeceased by her parents and her six siblings.

She is survived by her son, Mark Halloway of Limerick; her daughter, Vicki Tibbetts of Alfred; and her grandsons, Tyler and Shawn Draper.

She found joy in the simple things in life, and the time she spent with family. The memories she created will remain with those she loved forever.
