Edward L. "Eddie" Train

Edward L. Train (“Eddie”), of Long Island, Maine, passed away peacefully in the early morning of July 17, 2026, at the Gosnell House in Scarborough, Maine, at the age of 85.

Eddie was born on January 5, 1941, in Portland, Maine. He was the son of Lawrence Train and Hattie Wallace Train. He was raised on Munjoy Hill, Cumberland Avenue, and Long Island, Maine.

Eddie attended Munjoy Hill schools and Portland High School. After high school, he enlisted in the Army National Guard. He was a proud veteran and member of the AMVETS Post on Washington Avenue in Portland and served as its president for a time.

Eddie married Anne-Marie Grady on October 27, 1962. Together, they raised two sons, Stephen R. and Daniel E., in the North Deering section of Portland and on Long Island, Maine. The Train house was a gathering place not just for the couple’s friends, but for many neighborhood children who thought of it as a second home, like Theresa Iaconeta, who was treated like a daughter.

Eddie started out lobstering with his father but had a talent for drawing and moved to the
sign/advertising business. In the mid-’60s, he got a job at the post office. He did not leave
Donnelly Advertising for four more years, though. He put up billboards during the day and
picked up nights at the post office until he got a position as a letter carrier. He was a letter
carrier for 30-plus years. Just before retirement, he bought a small lobster boat, and returned to lobstering. In retirement, Eddie and Anne-Marie were fortunate to spend over 20 winters in Florida, while he continued to fish for lobster in the summers for all but the last five years of his life.

He loved his family, friends, events, and parties. He loved every time a new grandchild was
born; from the first to the last, the excitement was the same. He got at least 25 years with all of them. He loved hunting, fishing in any form, some traveling, and cards. To say Eddie was a good card player might be an understatement. His regular, ongoing weekly card game was at home, and most of his best friends sat around that table for 30 years.

He was predeceased by his parents and his sister, Eleanor Train Anderson.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Anne-Marie; his sons, Stephen (and wife, Marci) and
Daniel (and wife, Mary); and grandchildren Bailey, Hattie, Moira, and Rosie. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, notably his niece Jane Murphy, who grew up like a little sister to him.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Maine Medical Center, as well as at the Gosnell House, for their kindness and outstanding care.

Visiting hours will be from 3 to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, July 28, at the Conroy-Tully Walker Funeral Home of South Portland, 1024 Broadway, South Portland. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, July 29, at 10 a.m. in the chapel at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Portland, Maine.
