Joe was born on May 29, 1954, in Portland, Maine, the son of Ralph I. Douglass Sr. and Pauline (Judkins) Douglass. He grew up in the Sacopee Valley area, where he attended local schools.
Joe was a talented and hardworking craftsman who built a career as a house painter, specializing in both interior and exterior painting, as well as landscaping and hardscape work. He spent 20 years living and working in Utah before returning to his home state of Maine, where he continued working for himself, taking pride in his work and helping his customers.

He especially loved bringing people together and was happiest entertaining family and friends with backyard barbecues, good music, and dancing. He was known for his flamboyant personality, outgoing nature, and wonderful sense of humor. His Southern Baptist faith was an important part of his life and remained a source of strength throughout the years.
Joe was predeceased by his parents, Ralph I. Douglass Sr. and Pauline (Judkins) Douglass; his son, Zackary Douglass; his sister, Ruth Paratore; and his brothers, Ricky Douglass and Terri Wilson.
He is survived by his loving wife, Marie Douglass; his beloved daughter, Melissa “Missy” Fenderson; his sons, Anthony “Buffy” Douglass and his wife Bre, and Eli Douglass; his sisters, Beverly Hodgdon and her husband, Greg; and Sharon Tillson; his brothers, Robert “Scott” Wilson and Bruce “Eric” Wilson and his wife, Diane; his lifelong best friend, Nick Legere; as well as several cherished grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
A Celebration of Joe’s Life will be held on Saturday, July 18, at 2:00 P.M. at 4 Outlook Drive, Sanford.
