Born in: Portland, Maine
Resided in: South Portland, Maine

RaeJean DeCosta Smith, 50, passed away on June 20, 2026, in South Portland at home, surrounded by the loving family that she created. RaeJean was born on November 10, 1975, in Portland. She is the daughter of Tim and Cindy Wallace DeCosta.

RaeJean was a loving Wife, doting Mom, proud Mimi, caring Daughter, and fierce Friend. Just an amazing human being. She was taken from us too soon. She is leaving behind many who loved and cherished her. She was a strong, selfless, independent, creative, fun-loving woman. She enjoyed camping with her family and many friends, crocheting blankets and “stuffies” for her grandchildren, gardening, and spending time with her family.

RaeJean grew up in Windham before moving to Newport. She graduated from Nokomis High School. She then attended nursing school where she received her pin. She brought a sense of humor to wherever she worked and brightened the days of those who were fortunate enough to spend time with her.

She found her calling as the Kitchen Coordinator at Skillin Elementary School in South Portland. This is the job in which she truly belonged. Creating and cooking meals for the children brought her so much joy. She loved seeing and interacting with them every day, and they felt the same about her. Her presence filled the kitchen with joy, making each day much better for the children and the people she worked with.

RaeJean found her forever love with her husband, Ryan. They were married on August 9th, 2014, surrounded by friends and family they held most dear. Ryan and RaeJean completed each other and lived life to the fullest; spending time hiking, going on day trips and having many amazing adventures together. Experiencing everything this life had to offer. “Whole Bunches My Love”.

She poured her love and devotion into her 4 wonderful boys; creating a loving and supportive home for them to thrive. One of her happiest and proudest moments was when she became a Mimi, as she was known to her grandchildren. She was the heart of the family, the shining beacon showing the way in any storm, big or small. Time spent with the ones she loved meant the world to RaeJean. She never skipped out on family man hunt, a cookout, or any gathering. Not only was she easily the best cribbage player around, but she was naturally gifted at every board game or card game they played together.

Although born and raised in New England, and much to the dismay of many family members, RaeJean was a diehard Green Bay Packers fan. A true Cheese Head. This made game day interesting in the Smith household. She and Ryan were also fans of

Halloween, and their costumes were always well thought out and entertaining. They enjoyed decorating the yard and house for both Halloween and Christmas. Anything to make someone’s day that much brighter or interesting.

RaeJean was the type of person who inspired those around her to be better people by her selfless actions. She went out of her way to include and make people feel welcomed with her smile and gentle ways. But make no mistake, she was the one you wanted in your corner if things went south. She always had your best interests at heart and had your back.

She is predeceased by her grandparents, John and Phyllis DeCosta, Lester and Louise Wallace and her aunt, Sharon Bailey. She is survived by her soulmate and husband of 22 years, Ryan Smith; sons, Tyler and his wife Taylor Gagne, Xavier Gagne and his partner Andrea Bonin, Joshua Somerville, and Wyatt Smith. She adored her three grandchildren, Oliver, Addison, and RaeLynn Gagne. Remaining are also her siblings, Kate DeCosta and husband Greg Hill, Harry and Shelly Cragin; her special friend, Shannon Leighton; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

Visiting Hours will be held from 1pm – 3pm on Friday, July 3, 2026, at the new Conroy-Tully Walker Cremation, Funeral, and Gathering Center, 300 Allen Ave. Portland. Followed by a Celebration of Life held at the Coppersmith Tavern and Table, 671 Main St. South Portland, ME 04106 from 5pm – 8pm.
