RIP Jack de W2SG SK
I met Jack Gelfand K2BMI at Rutgers College (1958-1972) when it was one of the last all-male state institutions. He was the adviser to the Rutgers Amateur Radio Club WA2NPP while I was there. We became great friends, and later lived about 2 miles from each other in Kingston, NJ. I helped him set up his ham radio contest station, including a 100 foot tower with several very effective antennas at the top! You could see NYC and Philly from its apex! “The Place” was an 1860s-vintage farmhouse off of Old Georgetown Rd. in Kingston. The door to the farmhouse was always open to a vast array of humanity, because that’s the way Jack liked it!
Jack was a renowned scientist, having worked at Princeton University and others. He was approached to lead a new program at the State University of NY in Owego, which became very successful. His accomplishments in amateur radio, particularly in contesting, are legendary. He will be greatly missed. RIP Jack. 73 DE N2GJ ABQ NM USA
