Russell F. Snell, 72 passed away peacefully on Friday, May 29, 2026, at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough.

Born on August 21, 1953, in Sanford, Maine, Russell was the son of George and Doris (Lolly) Snell. He attended local schools and remained a lifelong resident of Sanford, living in the same family home throughout his life.

Russell was employed by several local businesses over the years, including Wasco, U.S. Felt, the Nike factory, and Shop ‘n Save. Most recently, he worked as a bus driver for the WAVE through YCCAC, a position he truly enjoyed. Russell enjoyed serving his community and making friends along the way.

He loved spending time outdoors and especially enjoyed hunting, fishing, and taking long walks. One of the highlights of his week was meeting friends for coffee and conversation at McDonald’s.
Russell was predeceased by his parents; his sister, Mary Ann Foster; and his nephew, David Foster.

He is survived by his niece, Stacy Plante and her husband, Dan; his niece-in-law, Pam Foster, his great-nieces and nephews Alli, Kassie, Isaac, Amanda, Nick, River and Gunner as well as friends who will miss him.

A graveside service will be held at Oakdale Cemetery on Friday, June 5 at 9:00 A.M. at Oakdale Cemetery in Sanford.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 18, 10:00 A.M. at Sanford First Baptist Church at 905 Main St., Sanford.
