Windham, Maine – Arthur “Art” Kelley, Jr., 71, passed away on May 17, 2026.

Art was born December 23,1954 in Hartford, CT. to Arthur Paul Kelley and Katherine McGrath Kelley – the first of their 4 children. He grew up in Vernon CT. He was an active kid who spent a lot of time outdoors biking, exploring the woods, playing baseball in the street, sledding, skating and skiing. Shortly after Art graduated from Rockville High School in 1972, his father died suddenly. Art returned from Stowe, VT where he was living and skiing to be with his family in Vernon. He apprenticed as a carpenter with Harold Rogers, a family friend. Around 1976, Art moved to Breckenridge, Colorado, where he was able to support himself as a carpenter and ski, ski, ski. After a few years, he decided to experience the Florida weather. There he took up fishing, which became a passion for the rest of his life.

In 1997, Art moved to Maine, where his mom and siblings were living. In South Portland, Art worked as an independent contractor doing carpentry, sheetrock, and steel stud framing. In his free time, he was an avid pool player, recreational lobsterman, and salt water fisherman. When Art’s mother moved to South Portland in 2016, Art became a huge support to her.

Art is predeceased by his parents, Art Sr. and Katherine. He leaves behind 2 brothers, Matthew Kelley of Emden, ME, and Peter Kelley of Connecticut; a sister, Mary Jo Moore (Steven) of Harpswell; many nieces, nephews and cousins; and some dear friends in the greater Portland area.

Visiting hours followed by a Celebration of Life will be held for Art on Sunday, May 31, at 1 PM at Conroy-Tully Walker Funeral Home of South Portland, 1024 Broadway, South Portland. Arrangements are under the direction of the Conroy-Tully Walker Funeral Home of South Portland. To view Art’s memorial page or to leave an online condolence, please visit www.ConroyTullyWalker.com.
