Patricia Peterson McKenney, 87, of Wells, Maine, passed away peacefully at home on April 24, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.
Pat or “Fig” as her sisters called her, was born in Fort Fairfield, Maine on July 28, 1938 to Powers and Kathleen (Simonson) Peterson. Pat attended area schools, graduated from Limestone High School and was crowned the 1958 Maine Potato Blossom Queen. She went on to attend the University of Maine at Orono. While finishing her degree, Pat married the love of her life, Thomas G. McKenney. Pat graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education in 1966, and went on to teach at Limestone High School in Physical Education and Health. Pat and Tom raised three children and as a family, they traveled from Limestone, Maine to California to support Tom’s career. They later settled in Wells, Maine in 1995 once Tom retired. Pat continued to work for several years at the Garden Street Market in Kennebunk and later at Hannaford where she made many connections and fond memories with members of her community.
Pat had a spice for life. She enjoyed the simple things, playing Yahtzee, watching the Boston Red Sox, spending time with her beloved family, sipping on wine and having a good time. She had a “get up and go” attitude and kept a strong will about her until the very end. Pat (Figgy) will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Pat leaves behind her three children, Kim Morrell (Dana) of Caribou, Maine, Mike McKenney of Wells, Maine, and Scott McKenney (Jessica) of Shapleigh, Maine. Five grandchildren, Kylee, Dana (Bub), Riley, Nevaeh and Meadow, as well as three great grandchildren, Tristen, Aspen, and Maximus. Pat also leaves behind her two sisters, Prudy Bernier of Caribou, Maine and Penny Haskell (Bob) of Arlington, Massachusetts and a sister-in-law, Judy Leighton of Albuquerque, New Mexico. Pat was preceded in death by her devoted and loving husband of 67 years, Thomas G. McKenney.
