Standish – Kathleen M. “Kit” (Perreault) Schofield passed away peacefully on April 26, 2026.
She was born in Lewiston, Maine, on December 14, 1946, the daughter of Angelo and Germaine (Lizotte) Perreault.
Kit was raised in South Portland, the oldest of six children, and from an early age was often a loving caregiver to her younger siblings. She was raised in the strong traditions of a faith-filled French Catholic family who were deeply active in their parish, a devotion to faith and service that Kit continued throughout her life.
She graduated from South Portland High School in the Class of 1965 and went on to earn her nursing degree. Nursing became not only her profession, but a true calling, reflecting her compassionate spirit and lifelong desire to help others. Over the years, she served as a hospice nurse and also worked at Mercy Hospital, Maine Medical Center, Community Health, and Blue Cross Blue Shield. Her life’s work was rooted in service, kindness, and love for others.
Kit shared nearly 49 years of marriage with her beloved husband, Tom Schofield. Together they built a life filled with joy, laughter, and cherished memories. They especially enjoyed camping, clogging, square dancing, and singing together. A devoted and loving mother, Kit gave freely of her time and energy to support her son through his years in Scouts, always encouraging and cheering him on. Family was the center of her life, and she treasured every moment spent with those she loved.
She was predeceased by her parents; her brother, Ron Perreault; her sister, Brenda Hutchinson; and her nephew, Adam Strom.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Tom Schofield of Standish; her sons, Chris Schofield and Matthew Derosby; her stepdaughter, Tina Smith; her granddaughter, Amber Smith; her siblings, Don Perreault, Lou Perreault and his wife Deb, and Aileen LaBrie and her husband Dan; her sister-in-law, Beth Perreault; as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, April 30, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Conroy-Tully Walker Funeral Home of South Portland, 1024 Broadway, South Portland. Prayers will be recited at the funeral home on Friday, May 1, at 9:00 a.m., followed by a 10:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Maximilian Kolbe Parish, 150 Black Point Road, Scarborough. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Broadway, South Portland.

I am so very sad to hear of Kit’s passing. We attended Mercy Hospital School of Nursing together in the ’60s. She was a very sweet lady. We had lost touch over the years, but a fellow student kept me updated and I had so hoped to reconnect. My heart goes out to her family.
Cindy
Due to sudden health issues, it is with disappointment that I will not be able to attend the Mass of Christian Burial.
My Prayers and Thoughts are with Tom, their children, and Kit’s siblings ; Don, Lou and Aileen.
I worked with Kit many years ago at Community Health Services. She was such a caring person in all aspects of her life. We lost touch after retirement. She was such a bright light to her patients and everyone else. My sympathies to her family
I am deeply saddened to learn of Kit’s passing. I fondly remember summers at Camp Hinds where she was the camp nurse. Much laughter and shenanigans. May flights of angels sing her to her rest.
I will remember Kit for her gentle hands and warm smile. Susan Robbins, RN, from CHS.
