Jill Marshall
August 6, 1957 ~ April 15, 2026
Jill Webber Marshall passed away on April 15, 2026, in her home in Portland, Maine, surrounded by her family. Windows were open, birds were chirping, Forsythia blossoms nearby, and her favorite songs were playing in the background, just as she had wanted. She was 68 years old.
Jill was born on August 6, 1957, in Ilwaco, Washington, to Richard and Joan Marshall, while her father served in the United States Air Force. Soon after, her family returned to New England, living briefly in North Reading, Massachusetts, before settling in Farmington, Maine, where generations of the Webber-Marshall family had deep roots.
Farmington was more than just a hometown, it was the foundation of a lifelong passion. Jill grew up immersed in a family legacy intertwined with Maine’s ski community, where the Webber and Marshall names became synonymous with Sugarloaf and Titcomb Mountain they helped build and shape. A highly competitive skier, Jill spent her youth traveling across the country for ski racing, culminating with her competing at Junior National and Senior National events.
After graduating from Mt. Blue High School in 1975, she attended University of Maine in Orono and later earned a degree in Social Work at University of Southern Maine.
Jill met her husband, Michael, in Farmington in 1976, and they married in 1980. Together they built a life rooted in partnership, family, and travel. They raised two daughters, Abbey and Whitney, first in Farmington and later in Portland, Maine, where they settled in 1988 and remained.
Her most important work was always centered around her family. She chose a path that allowed her to be fully present in her daughters’ lives, working as an educational technician at Lyseth Elementary School and later Ocean Avenue Elementary School. For over two decades, she was a beloved and steady presence in the school community, loved not only by colleagues, but remembered fondly by students and their families.
Jill was a devoted and deeply present mother. She never missed her children’s school events or athletic games. Whether driving a van full of kids to practice, sitting behind home plate keeping score at countless softball games, or simply being there after school each day, she built a childhood for her daughters defined by consistency, care, and unwavering support.
In time, her most cherished role became Nana to her grandchildren: Wyatt, Gemma, Cora, Olivia, and Rory.
Jill brought joy into everyday life in simple, unforgettable ways. She loved music, singing loudly and freely around the house and on the back deck on a summer’s night, often with a wooden spoon in hand. She played the harmonica for her grandchildren, FaceTimed with her daughters and grandchildren multiple times a day, and made sure the people she loved always felt connected to her. “You Are My Sunshine” was more than just a song to her, it was an expression of how she saw and loved her family.
Jill had a deep love of travel, especially with her husband, Michael. Together, they filled their time with trips big and small: traveling as a couple, with close friends, and with their children and grandchildren.
Travel was something Jill didn’t just enjoy, she actively and joyfully orchestrated it. It became a running joke that she was “the family travel agent,” always planning the next trip before the current one had even ended. She poured immense care and detail into every vacation, finding the most beautiful homes, and always the best possible deals.
Whether exploring European cities with Michael, or gathering with the grandchildren in favorite places closer to home, Jill believed in the importance of these shared experiences and cherished creating memories together.
She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Michael Prior, of Portland; her daughters, Abbey Prior (Jeremy Lock) of Portland and Whitney Guerrero (Luke) of Pittsford, New York; grandchildren Wyatt Hutchins of Portland and Gemma and Cora Guerrero of Pittsford; her brother, William Jay Marshall of Carrabassett Valley; and countless extended family members and friends who will remember her strength, her smile, and her unforgettable laugh.
She was predeceased by her parents, Richard B. Marshall and Joan W. Marshall, and two grandchildren, Olivia and Rory Guerrero.
Our family extends our deepest appreciation to the caring people at New England Cancer Specialists for the exceptional care Jill received throughout the last two years, with a special thank you to Dr. Evans, Sarah, and Carley.
The family is planning a gathering to honor her life in August.
