Anne-Marie Sanger, 82, of Alfred, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 21, 2026, at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough, surrounded by the love and prayers of her family.
Born in Sanford on August 8, 1943, she was the beloved daughter of Emmitt and Jeanne D’Arc (Perron) Pouliot. Anne-Marie grew up in Sanford and attended the local Catholic schools, graduating in 1961. Soon after graduation, she began working in the office at WSME Radio, where she was employed for several years. Over the course of her working life, she held several other office positions, but her favorite role by far was serving as Office Manager of Holy Family Parish. There, she combined her faith, dedication, and organizational talents in service to her church community.
In 1962, Anne-Marie met the love of her life, James “Jim” Sanger. They were married in 1964 and went on to share 61 beautiful years of marriage, building a life rooted in faith, love, and family while raising three cherished children. Together, they created a warm and welcoming home filled with laughter, devotion, and unwavering support.
Anne-Marie was a deeply devout Catholic and a faithful communicant of St. Therese of Lisieux Parish. Throughout her life, she was continuously active in parish life. She sang in the choir, served as a Eucharistic Minister, and dedicated her time to numerous parish committees. Most recently, she was involved with the parish Food Pantry, always eager to lend a helping hand to those in need. Her life revolved around her church and her family, and she truly lived a life of service to others. Kind and loving, with a warm and welcoming personality, Anne-Marie was deeply religious and always ready to help someone in need. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
She was predeceased by her parents and by her sister, Kathleen Beaudoin.
Anne-Marie is survived by her devoted husband, James “Jim” Sanger of Alfred; her three children, Cynthia Donatelli and her husband Peter of Portland, Jeff Sanger and his wife Karen of Jensen Beach, Florida, and Matthew Sanger and his wife Cheri of Lexington, Kentucky; her five beloved grandchildren, Cassandra Donatelli, J. Nichols Donatelli, Ada-Nicole Sanger, Addison Sanger, and Ainsley Sanger; and her brother, Michael Pouliot and his wife Solveig of Mesa, Arizona.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, February 27th, at St. Therese of Lisieux Parish, located on North Avenue in Sanford. Interment will be in the spring at St. Ignatius Cemetery.
Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider making a memorial contribution to the St. Therese of Lisieux Parish Food Pantry or the St. Therese of Lisieux Parish Haiti Fund. Checks may be made payable to St. Therese of Lisieux Parish, with “Food Pantry” or “Haiti Fund” noted in the memo line, and mailed to 66 North Avenue, Sanford, Maine 04073.
Anne-Marie’s legacy of faith, compassion, and steadfast love will live on in the hearts of her family, her parish community, and all who were blessed to know her.
