Robert "Bobby" C. Peary, Jr.
May 4, 1948 ~ January 16, 2026
Scarborough – Robert C. Peary Jr. (“Bobby”), 77, of Black Point Road, passed away on January 16 at Maine Medical Center. He was born on May 4, 1948, to the late Robert and Emily (Hines) Peary.
Bobby attended Scarborough schools and graduated from Scarborough High School. He proudly served in the United States Navy as a Seabee. Following his military service, he worked as an auto mechanic in the family business before opening Peary’s Small Engine Repair at his home. He later went on to start a barrel business, where he became widely known as “The Barrel Man,” a name he wore proudly. Bobby also worked for the Town of Scarborough Community Services, retiring in 2020.
Bobby’s greatest joy was being “Grampa” to his four grandchildren. He also enjoyed watching NASCAR and attending races at local racetracks, where he could often be found cheering on his stepson and, most recently, his grandsons. In his downtime, he loved listening to his old bluegrass and classic country music whenever he had the chance.
Bobby was predeceased by his parents; his partner of nearly 40 years, Karen Brackett; and his brother, James Peary (“Jimmy”). He is survived by his stepson, Shawn Brackett and wife Kayla of Scarborough; his grandchildren, Mason, Matthew, Katie, and Thomas Brackett; his sister, Linda Dolloff of Standish; and his sister-in-law, Vicki Peary of Scarborough, as well as several nieces and a nephew.
A graveside service will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Conroy-Tully Walker Funeral Home of South Portland, 1024 Broadway.
