Lorraine B. Goodness, 86, a lifelong resident of Sanford, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 11, 2026, at Pinnacle Health Care in Sanford.
She was born on September 10, 1939, the only child of the late Roland and Doris (Littlefield) Bouffard, in Sanford where she grew up and attended local schools, including Longfellow School. She graduated from Sanford High School with the Class of 1957.
As a child, Lorraine spent much of her time living at her grandparents’ family farm in Springvale while her parents worked in town. Those early years helped shape her strong work ethic, quiet nature, and deep sense of caring for others.
Lorraine devoted most of her life to caring for her home, her husband, and her children as a homemaker. After her children were grown, she went on to serve the community as a school crossing guard, a role she held for nearly 20 years.
She was a lifelong member of the Grange, serving as a State Junior Deputy and remaining active with the Mousam Grange, Hollis Grange, and York Pomona at the county level.
In her spare time, Lorraine enjoyed knitting and crocheting hats, mittens, and scarves, making sure that family and friends received a new set each year. Though she was quiet by nature, she was well known and respected. She was a good listener, generous with her time, and a natural caregiver, often opening her home to those in need. She also lovingly cared for her mother-in-law to whom she was very close, Florence Goodness.
Lorraine was predeceased by her beloved husband of 45 years, Joseph Goodness in 2007.
She is survived by her son, Joel Goodness and his wife Rachel of Casco; her daughter, Melissa Baldwin of Sanford; three grandsons, Jacob Goodness of Augusta, Benjamin Goodness and his wife Angela of Poland, and Noah Goodness of Biddeford; and two great-granddaughters, Lilith and Faye Goodness.
A graveside service will be held in the spring at St. Ignatius Cemetery.

I will miss you.
Condolences to Joel and family.
