Born in: Beverly, Massachusetts
Resided in: Acton, Maine

Daniel Mark Mazzotti, age 71, of Acton, ME, passed away on December 11, 2025 of natural causes.

Daniel was born on July 9, 1954 at Beverly Hospital, Beverly, MA to Jack E. and Phyllis B. Mazzotti, residents of Hamilton, MA. After Dan graduated high school from New England Military Academy in Byfield, MA, he went on to complete a 2-year Carpentry-Woodworking program through North Bennet Street Industrial School (now North Bennet Street School) in Boston, MA.

Dan worked his first years as a carpenter for several contracting companies throughout the north shore of MA, perfecting his craftsmanship in fine finish work. In the late 1980’s, he was introduced to the National Park Service through a term position at the Lowell National Historical Park. Dan then began his full-time career with the NPS, developing and pursuing his passion for historic preservation.

Dan worked 17 years at the Salem Maritime and Saugus Iron Works National Historic Sites, and 10 years at Gettysburg National Military Park and the Eisenhower National Historic Site.

Dan was the Buildings and Utilities Branch Supervisor at Gettysburg until he retired from the NPS in 2016. He was a natural-born leader and loved to lead the men he felt so privileged to work with, especially his crew in Gettysburg. He was honored to lead and work alongside his team, to rehabilitate, restore, preserve and protect the historic structures at Gettysburg NMP and Eisenhower NHS.

Though Dan continued to share his love and knowledge of historic preservation as an independent contractor in retirement, his greatest joy was the privacy and peace of his home in Maine with his wife Karen, where he had the leisurely time to do the things he loved best: improving and maintaining his beautiful landscape, woodworking, and tending his prolific, organic vegetable garden.

Dan and Karen met in 1973 and married in 1978, raising their two children, Jessica and Mark, while living in the north shore of MA and southern ME. After his retirement from the NPS, Dan and Karen returned to New England and settled in Acton, ME.

Dan was predeceased by his mother Phyllis and father Jack. Dan is survived by many beloved family members including his wife Karen, his daughter Jessica and her husband Carl, his son Mark; his brother Jack and wife Jan, his brother Robert and wife Brenda, his brother Paul; many cousins, nieces and nephews, and his beautiful granddaughter, Ella.

A private family service will be held at a later date. Burial will be at the Hamilton Cemetery, Hamilton, MA. Above all, in memory of Dan and to honor his life of service, his family asks for prayer to the only true God who is faithful to heal the brokenhearted and save the crushed in spirit.
