Mary Therese Bradley, 99, of South Portland, Maine passed away peacefully December 17, 2025.
Born March 19, 1926, in Portland, Maine, Mary was the daughter of the late Edward Bradley and the late Sarah “Sadie” Conley Bradley. Mary grew up in Portland, where she graduated from Saint Joseph’s Academy, then in 1948 from Trinity College in Washington, DC with a degree in chemistry. Mary worked as a chemist and teacher in Boston before settling in South Portland in 1958, where she worked as a biochemist and teacher while caring for her aging parents. After retiring from full-time work, she remained a substitute and adult education teacher for the Portland Public Schools until the early 2000s.
Mary was an active member of Holy Cross Church in South Portland, and an avid Boston sports fan throughout her life. Her devotion to her faith and family is all that exceeded her devotion to the Red Sox. Mary spoke seven languages conversantly. She was the hit of morning coffees at Cia Cafe in South Portland, and later at trivia nights in her community at Merrill Gardens in West Chester, PA.
Mary was very close with and survived by her niece, Mary Catherine Ortman, and her nephews Edward J. DeMarco, Vincent A. DeMarco, Francis C. DeMarco, John B. DeMarco, and James M. DeMarco, as well as their spouses, children and grandchildren. Her niece and nephews, and their families, are deeply grateful for how her lasting and faithful presence greatly enriched their lives. Mary was preceded in death by her sister, Patricia Marie Bradley DeMarco.
