Doris H. Martineau

October 2, 1933 ~ November 19, 2025

Doris H. Martineau, 92, of Sanford, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, at Southern Maine Health Care in Biddeford, surrounded by the love of her family.

Born in Sanford on October 2, 1933, to Alberic and Rachel (Lavigne) Desrochers, Doris grew up in her beloved hometown and attended local schools, graduating from St. Ignatius High School. Throughout her life, she remained deeply connected to her community and the people within it.
Doris held several jobs over the years, including many devoted years at the Medical Arts Building in Springvale. She later worked at WASCO, where she remained until her well-earned retirement. No matter where she worked, Doris was known for her friendly spirit, her strong work ethic, and her ability to make others feel at ease.

In 1956, Doris married the love of her life, Donald Martineau, and together they raised four daughters. They shared nearly 57 years of marriage before Donald’s passing in 2013. Doris was a devoted wife, a loving mother, and a true matriarch whose warmth and steady presence shaped the lives of everyone around her.

A woman of many talents, Doris loved to read, knit, and crochet, and she had a deep and joyful relationship with music. She played the accordion and piano, and she loved to sing. Doris brought her enthusiasm for the arts to the community as a member of the Nasson Community Theater in Springvale. She also enjoyed line dancing and volunteered her time at Books Revisited in Sanford.

Family was at the center of everything Doris did. She treasured her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and delighted in every moment she spent with them. Her home was famous for its warmth—anyone who walked through her door instantly became family. Her kindness, hospitality, and genuine love for people were at the core of who she was.

Doris was predeceased by her husband, Donald Martineau, and her brother, Raymond Desrochers.

She is survived by her four daughters: Lorina Rachel Brewer and her husband Steven of Gilbert, AZ; Gail Tanguay and her husband Gary of Sanford, ME; Carol McKeage and her husband John of Lisbon, ME; and Brenda Eastman and her husband Walter of Minot, ME. She also leaves behind 11 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, her sisters Lucille Lachance and Jacqueline Tapscott, her sister-in-law Marlene Lavalley, and several nieces and nephews. All of them carry with them the enduring imprint of her love.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 29th from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., with a memorial luncheon to follow at the Black-Heald & Walker Funeral Home, 580 Main Street in Springvale.

Those wishing to express sympathy may consider a memorial contribution to Waypoint (Waban), 5 Dunaway Drive, Sanford, Maine 04073, an organization meaningful to Doris and her family.

Arrangements are under the direction of Black-Heald & Walker, Cremations, Funerals and Gatherings, Sanford-Springvale.
