Lucille M. Camire, 93, of Sanford, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 19, 2025 at Pinnacle Health and Rehabilitation in Sanford, surrounded by the love and warmth of her family.
Born in Sanford to Ephrem and Marie Louise (Gouin) Morin, Lucille grew up in her beloved hometown and attended local schools. In 1950, she married the love of her life, Lucien P. Camire. Together they shared 59 beautiful years of marriage and raised six children, building a home filled with faith, laughter, and unwavering devotion.
Throughout her working life, Lucille held several jobs, including many years at Universal Shoe. She later joined Gene’s Bakery, where she became affectionately known as the “happy dishwasher.” Her cheerful spirit, warm smile, and kind heart endeared her to all who worked alongside her.
Lucille’s hands were rarely still. She enjoyed knitting, sewing, and crocheting, creating cherished handmade gifts for the people she loved. She delighted in going out to eat, exploring her family’s genealogy, and taking trips to the casino with her children. Some of her fondest memories were made during family trips to Canada, a place that always held special meaning for her.
A talented and dedicated cook, Lucille took great joy in preparing meals for her family. Holidays were her favorite times of year, and for 40 years she hosted Thanksgiving gatherings that brought relatives and friends together under one grateful roof. Her nurturing spirit was the heart of her family.
A devout Catholic, Lucille was a longtime communicant of St. Ignatius Parish and then St. Thérèse of Lisieux Parish. Her faith guided her life and was reflected in her generosity, compassion, and gentle presence. At Pinnacle, she was lovingly referred to as “Memere,” a name that spoke not only to her role within her family but also to the affection and care she showed to others. She loved nothing more than spending time with her family and friends, and her absence will be deeply felt.
Lucille will be remembered for her boundless kindness, her devotion to family, and the love she so freely gave. Her legacy lives on in the many lives she touched.
Lucille was predeceased by her beloved husband, Lucien P. Camire; her daughter, Rachel L. Martin; her parents; and her siblings, Irene Lacombe and Henry Morin.
She is survived by five children: Pauline Smith and husband Daniel of Springvale; Nancy Gendreau and husband Paul, Jr. of Sanford; Gerard E. Camire and wife Heidi of Sanford; Diane Therrien and husband Mark of Sanford; and Rosie Brown and husband Steven of Sanford. She also leaves behind 14 grandchildren—Sarah, Timothy, Brian, Michelle, Paul III, Robert, Jessica, Zachary, Courtney, Derek, Tiffany, Tyler, Jeremy, and Blaine—24 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. Additionally, she is survived by two sisters-in-law, Betty Morin and Lillian Camire, along with many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to visitation on Tuesday, November 25th from 3:00 to 7:00 PM at Black-Heald & Walker Funeral Home, 580 Main Street, Springvale. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, November 26th at 11:00 AM at St. Thérèse of Lisieux Parish, Holy Family Church, North Avenue in Sanford. Interment will follow at St. Ignatius Cemetery in Sanford.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of both the Pinnacle Health and Rehabilitation and Compassus Hospice for the care and compassion shown to Lucille and her family during her period of declining health.
Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider sending a memorial contribution in Lucille’s name to the Pinnacle Resident Council Fund, 1142 Main Street, Sanford, Maine 04073 or to a local charity of one’s choice.
Arrangements are under the direction of Black-Heald & Walker, Cremations, Funerals & Gatherings, Sanford-Springvale.
