Roger Savoie

January 8, 1936 ~ November 10, 2025

Born in: Sanford, Maine
Resided in: Sanford, Maine

Roger Savoie, 89, a lifelong resident of Sanford, passed away Peacefully at home on Monday, November 10, 2025 following several years of complications from strokes.

He was born on January 8, 1936, one of eight children of Wilfred and Margaret (Legere) Savoie, in Sanford, where he grew up and attended local schools, including St. Ignatius School.

Roger proudly served his country in the U.S. Army for two years before returning home to Sanford. In June of 1957, he married the love of his life, Rita, and together they raised two daughters, Therese and Cynthia, whom he adored and spoiled. Roger lost his mother at a very young age, and this profoundly altered his childhood. That experience shaped his heart and brought deep devotion to family throughout his life.

He was a communicant of St. Thérèse Parish, Holy Family Church in Sanford.

He spent his career in the Sanford textile industry, most notably at Tenneford Weaving, where he retired as supervisor at the age 60.

In retirement, Roger and Rita enjoyed wintering in Myrtle Beach as “snowbirds” and traveling extensively to places including Branson, Missouri; the mountains of North Carolina and the Poconos; the Grand Canyon; Gettysburg; New York City; Disney; and many other Florida destinations. He and his family created many great memories through travel.

At home, Roger took pride in his garden and loved experimenting in the kitchen. He was especially good at making his Sunday blueberry muffins. Roger enjoyed following the stock market—always keeping an eye on his penny stocks. He also lent a hand to his brothers in their carpentry business and took great pride in helping with home-building projects, including his own.
The challenges Roger faced early in life helped shape him into the loving, patient, and devoted husband, father, and family man he became.

He was predeceased by his parents and his siblings Roland, Albert, Raymond, and Armand Savoie; Jeannine Lydeck; Lillian Hill; and MaryAnn Savoie.

Roger is survived by his beloved wife of 68 years, Rita Savoie; his daughters Therese Perkins and her husband Thomas of Sanford, and Cynthia Szymbor of Springvale; two grandsons, Gregory Szymbor of Springvale and Dylan Szymbor of Middleton, NH; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members who will miss him dearly.

A private graveside service will be held at the Southern Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery.

Roger’s family will forever be grateful to the care and devotion that Kate Tomlisnson gave their dad.

“Thank you, Kate, for helping us take care of Dad at home for many years until his passing.”

  1. My sincerest condolences to the family. Roger was a friend of my Dad’s growing up and his daughter Terry was a good friend of mine while growing up. Whenever I would go to her house her parents were always so kind. I remember seeing them sitting in their living room, always together enjoying each others company.
Thinking of you Rita, Terry and Cindy and may your loved one RIP in the arms of Jesus. 🙏❤️
