Joseph J. Levesque

July 22, 1943 ~ October 22, 2025

Joseph J. Levesque, 81, of Sanford, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, at The Lodges in Springvale.

Joseph was born on July 22, 1943, in Frenchville, Maine, to Henry and Jane (Fournier) Levesque. He grew up in Frenchville, where he attended local schools and developed a lifelong appreciation for hard work and simplicity. As a young man, Joseph owned and operated a small farm, where he raised pigs, calves, ducks, and other animals. He also worked in the potato fields during harvest season, embodying the steadfast work ethic that would define his life.

Later, Joseph relocated to Sanford to be closer to family and began working at Genest Concrete. He remained there for many years, earning the respect of his coworkers through his reliability and quiet dedication until his retirement. A proud member of the Knights of Columbus in Sanford, Joseph valued community and faith, though he lived them humbly through his actions more than words.

Joseph was known for his frugality and his quiet, gentle nature. He found joy in the simple things—spending time outdoors, snowmobiling in the winter, tending to projects around his home, or listening to music and watching TV in the evenings. He was happiest at home, surrounded by the familiar comforts of the life he built.

He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Joseph was predeceased by several siblings and their spouses: Romeo and Laurette Levesque, Allyre Levesque, Oneil and Lois Levesque, Gilbert and Juliette Levesque, Aline Mayo, and Joan Levesque.

He is survived by his siblings, Emile Levesque and his wife Alice of East Hampton, Connecticut; Patricia Levesque Labbe and her husband Geral of Bristol, Connecticut; and Claude Levesque of Springvale; as well as his sister-in-law, Madeline Levesque of Sanford, and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 PM on Friday, October 24th, at the Black, Heald & Walker Funeral Home, 580 Main Street in Springvale. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Saturday, October 25th, at St. Thérèse of Lisieux Parish, North Avenue in Sanford. Interment will follow at St. Ignatius Cemetery in Sanford.

Joseph’s family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff at The Lodges in Springvale for their compassionate care and kindness.

Quiet and steady, hardworking and kind, Joseph lived a humble life rooted in family, faith, and simplicity. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
