Douglas Kenney Lewis, 72, of Wells, Maine, passed away on October 14, 2025 after a long illness.
Doug was born on January 29, 1953 to Marjorie Elizabeth Kenney and Ernest James Lewis in Sanford, Maine. After Doug graduated from Roselle Park High School in 1971, he went on to study Journalism and Spanish at the University of Maine, where he accepted a pitching scholarship. Although an injury ended his pitching prospects, he never lost his love of the game.
Doug worked several jobs throughout his life including his 25 years at Marshwood High School in Maine as a Spanish teacher where he touched many young lives, both as a teacher and a Baseball coach. He arranged many trips to Spain for his students and hoped to live there one day. He also worked in Wells, Maine in the summers with his lifelong friend Dean Hudon.
But Doug’s happiest time was the many years he was writing, singing, playing and recording his own music with his partner Eve (formerly Deb) Sawyer. His heartfelt lyrics and melodies have touched many souls. A gift he was given by his father,
Among other things, Doug was a gifted musician, singer, guitarist, writer, linguist, baseball player, and actor. He was a dedicated son, brother, teacher, and the kindest uncle a niece and nephew could have.
Doug was predeceased by his father, Ernest James Lewis, Grandparents, Ernest Iles Lewis and Mary Elizabeth Lennan, Preston Arthur Kenney and Jennie Mae Stephens. He is survived by his mother, Marjorie Elizabeth Kenney Lewis, sister, Margaret Mary Lennan.
Lewis, four brothers, Christopher Iles Lewis, Gregory Preston Lewis, Timothy James Lewis and Edward John Lewis. Two nieces, Erin Lennan Maglietta and Amy Grace Ackerman, and two nephews, Shawn Patrick Lewis and Daniel Lewis Ackerman.
Services will be held at St Georges Episcopal Church, 3 Emerson Street, Sanford, Maine on October 24, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to your local animal shelter, food pantry or homeless shelter.

I knew Doug many years ago while I worked at the Wells Post office. A quiet gentle soul and so talented.
