Robert Kalinyak

December 7, 1939 ~ September 27, 2025

South Portland – Robert “Bob” Kalinyak, 85, passed away on September 27, 2025.

He was born on December 7, 1939, in Conemaugh Township, Pennsylvania, the son of the late George and Anna Kalinyak. Bob grew up in very modest circumstances, one of thirteen children. After the loss of his grandparents to the flu at a young age, his parents adopted his extended family members and raised them with resilience and determination. Despite those early hardships—growing up without running water and with little means—Bob built a remarkable life defined by service, love, and dedication to his family.

Bob enlisted in the United States Air Force and proudly served for 28 years. His military career provided him with structure, discipline, and lasting friendships. Following his retirement from the Air Force, Bob remained a hard worker, taking on many jobs over the years. He spent more than a decade with NAPA Auto Parts, delivering parts to local garages, and enjoyed the sense of purpose and connection that came with staying busy.

An enthusiastic sports fan, he enjoyed watching games of all kinds, especially when it meant cheering on his children and later, other family members. He also served as president of the New England Football League (NEFL), a semi-professional football league in Massachusetts. Bob’s most extraordinary devotion was to his family. He shared 59 years of marriage with his wife, Donna (Darling) Kalinyak, and together they built a strong, loving home. His legacy of kindness, generosity, and unwavering love will forever be remembered by all who knew him.

Bob is proudly survived by his loving wife, Donna; his son, Jim Kalinyak; his daughter-in-law, Donna Kalinyak; his son, Robert Kalinyak; his daughter-in-law, Rachel Kalinyak; his daughter, Patti Wilson; and his son-in-law, Mark Wilson. He was a devoted grandfather to Ryan and spouse Courtney, Seth and spouse Isabella, Nate, Bella, Ashley, Morgan, and Lacey, and he took immense joy in being a great-grandfather to Rayna and Carter. The remaining surviving brother is George Kalinyak.

Visiting hours celebrating Bob’s life will be held from 4-6 pm on Monday, October 6, 2025, at the Conroy-Tully Walker Funeral Home of South Portland. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 am on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, at the Conroy-Tully Walker of South Portland with a burial at Highland Memorial Cemetery, South Portland, Maine.
