Sophie S. Williams, 84, of Sanford, passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, August 25, 2025, surrounded by her family.
Born in Sanford on July 20, 1941, to John and Sophie Goodrich, Sophie grew up in her hometown and attended local schools. She carried with her throughout her life the warmth, spirit, and kindness that so many came to cherish.
Sophie worked for more than thirty years at Sprague Electric in Sanford before continuing her career with Acadia Healthcare. She also dedicated much of her time to what mattered most—caring for her family, including her beloved grandchildren and her brother, Linden.
She had a zest for life and loved to travel with her family, making cherished memories along the way. A highlight each year was attending the Friends of Elvis event at Camp Sunshine with her sisters, an outing filled with joy, laughter, and music. Music was one of Sophie’s great passions—she was a self-taught pianist, organist, and accordion player who could play anything by ear. Dancing and listening to music brought her happiness throughout her life.
Sophie found joy in simple pleasures, from attending Zumba classes and enjoying haddock nuggets with a coffee shake at Lord’s in Sanford, to baking sugar cookies and fudge for her loved ones. She was an animal lover who enjoyed feeding the birds and spending quiet moments watching them outside her window.
Above all, Sophie was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. She placed her family at the center of her life, always offering her love, support, and care. She will be remembered for her warmth, her humor, and her unwavering devotion to those she loved.
Sophie was predeceased by her parents; her brothers, Alan and Linden Goodrich; and a grandson, Weston Pierson.
She is survived by her three children, Christine (Mark) Pierson of Saco, Bob (Sheila) Chevalier of Sanford, and Sandy (Dana) Gammon of Limerick; her seven grandchildren, Anne (Paul) Webb, William Pierson, Tracy Prokey, Richard Prokey, Ken (Kelly) Donagan, James (Karen) Allen, and Mathew (Katie) Allen; as well as many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by 9 siblings, John F. Goodrich (Cindy), Ronnie Goodrich, Danny Goodrich, Noella (Jerry) Howard, Gary Goodrich, Sylvia (Ed) Marquette, Ansie Stuart, Wayne Goodrich, and Philip (Samantha) Goodrich; and many nieces and nephews.
A private interment will be held at Oakdale Cemetery in Sanford.
A celebration of Sophie’s life will be held on Saturday, September 20th from 1 – 5pm at the Sanford Amvets, 169 School Street, Sanford, Maine.
Those wishing to honor Sophie’s memory are invited to make a memorial contribution to the Animal Welfare Society, P.O. Box 43, West Kennebunk, Maine 04094.

Christine, Bob, and Sandy,
I will always remember the good times shared with your Mom and you kids. The many Christmas memories, Birthday parties, trips to the mountains and Sunday dinners. She just wasn’t my sister in law she was my sister. May happy memories help you through this time of sorrow. She is now a bright star in the sky.
