Patricia “Paddy” Cousins

June 15, 1961 ~ June 21, 2025

South Portland – Patricia “Paddy” (Nee) Cousins, 64, passed away on June 21, 2025, at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House, surrounded by the people who loved her most.

Born in Portland on June 15, 1961, Paddy was the daughter of Tom and Kay Nee and grew up on Mass Ave in Libbytown. She attended St. Patrick’s School where she was also a member of the parish. Paddy was a proud graduate of McAuley High School. Her roots were deep in Portland, and she carried her love for the city—and the people in it—with her throughout her life.

Paddy spent her career taking care of people, most notably as a waitress at J’s Oyster and Becky’s Diner.

In 2017, she married Paul Cousins. They made their home in South Portland and shared years filled with laughter, travel, and deep love. Paddy was at her happiest near the water—on Casco Bay, especially—and loved exploring the world. Some of her favorite trips included Ireland, Paris, Rome, Nice, Hawaii, and a meaningful Catholic pilgrimage to Fatima, Portugal.

More than anything, Paddy was a mom. Ceili, Thomas, Michael, and James were her everything. Her greatest pride came from raising them— until her grandson Wes came along and stole her heart completely.

Paddy was predeceased by her parents, Tom and Kay; her brothers Tommy and Dickie; her brother-in-law Paul; and her nephews Ben, Seamus, and Coleman.

She is survived by her husband Paul; her children Ceili, Thomas, Michael (and his wife Madeline), and James; her grandson Wes; stepchildren Nichole, Andrew (and his wife Jenna), and Meghan (and her husband Ben); and step-grandchildren Kip, Van, Oak, and Wyatt. She also leaves behind her sisters Kathy and Mary; her brothers Stephen and Michael; her sister-in-law Katie; and many nieces, nephews, and friends who meant the world to her.

Paddy lived her life with humor and heart. She gave everything to her family and friends and left a mark on everyone lucky enough to know her. She will be missed beyond words.

Visiting Hours celebrating Paddy’s life will be held on Thursday, June 26 from 4-7PM at the Conroy-Tully Walker Funeral Home of South Portland, 1024 Broadway, South Portland. • Dearest Ceili, Thomas, Michael and “my” “Jim Bob”,
Your mom was a hot ticket!! Always positive and kind. Paddy’s passing will leave a huge hole around town.

  2. You were loved by so many and your cheery smile warmed my heart many times at Js or Becky’s when I needed a smile or a joke. Rest in Peace. Blessing to the family.

  4. Paul.
I am so very sorry for your loss. I can truly understand your loss having lost my husband and daughter. You had great years together and the memories will be forever in your heart. Paddy can join your mom now and share more memories. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

  5. Dear Ceili, and the entire family of the most wonderful Paddy!! Paddy was the Absolute best Mom, sister, aunt, friend , wife, waitress , I feel truly blessed to have known her. She always had a listening ear, and the best advice to the young and old. She had such faith and truly her face lit up whenever she talked about her Children!! Look for the signs because Paddy will be checking on all of you in the years to come. I am sending prayers 🙏 ❤️ to you all during this difficult time. Sincerely, Arlene Tanous-McCracken

  6. Paddy and I were classmates from both St.Patrick’s school and Catherine McAuley. In grammar school she would lead her friends into singing Elvis’ Blue Suede Shoes. She loved going to games and cheering on St.Pat’s or Cheverus. We will hang onto those memories.

  7. Dear Paul,

Gary and I were saddened to hear about Paddy – we continually lifted her (and you) up in prayer as she fought the courageous battle – but are relieved her suffering is over. There is no doubt she was an angel here on earth and will continue to do God’s work in heaven. We feel truly blessed to have spent some time with her on the water (our favorite place, too!) and know we will see her again. We love and miss you and pray that you are blessed with comfort and peace throughout this extremely difficult time.

    Take care,
    -Kim & Gary Cousins

  8. This world has lost a very bright light.
May her joyous “Paddiness” carry on through those she loved. ❤️
