Donald Ballard

February 26, 1942 ~ November 10, 2021
Donald R. Ballard of Wells, Maine and Sebastian, Florida, passed away at home on November 10, 2021.
Born in Presque Isle on February 16, 1942, he was the son of Kenneth L. and Laura E. (Libby) Ballard. Don grew up in Presque Isle, graduating from Presque Isle High School in 1960, followed by his graduation from American International College.
His entire working life was spent in the insurance business--for many years with Union Mutual, then later Sun Life.
He was pre-deceased by his parents and his sister, Patricia Mae Ballard. Just a couple of weeks prior to Don's demise, his partner of nearly 50 years, Bill Horigan, passed away.
He is survived by his brother Dave and sister-in-law Linda (Dow) Ballard.
Don leaves behind many friends from his high school class, his college days, from his professional life, his church (where he sang in the choir for many years), from the numerous choral groups with which he sang in Maine and Florida, and from members of Bill's extended family. Those who knew him can well imagine the number of people whose lives he touched.
Final goodbyes will take place in the spring or summer of 2022. Meantime, donations in Don's memory may be made to the North Parish Congregational Church, UCC, 893 Main Street, Sanford, ME 04073.
Arrangements are under the direction of Black Funeral Homes and Cremation Service, Sanford-Springvale.

I remember you, Donnie, as one of the “big kids”, when we lived next door to Pudge and Debbie Philips. As one of the Donahue twins, I loved your antics, hearing you sing and looking up to you. You were larger than life, in my eyes, and full of fun, not to mention entertaining. You will be greatly missed. Sending condolences to your family and friends.

I remember Don from his involvement in Seaglass Performing Arts–always great to hear him sing with several other mutual friends. (I was a participant in the theater arm of Seaglass years ago). Condolences to his brother David, whom I worked with many years ago in Searsport. I’m thinking I might have seen Don’s name on some of the documents I type as an employee at Union Mutual in the early 80s. Small world.

We are sorry to learn of our kind friends and neighbors’ passings. Don and Bill were great neighbors in Brockton for many years and offered many special memories to us and our children – especially visits to Ogunquit. We’ve thought of them often and have missed them over the years. Our condolences to their friends and both of their families. George and Linda Kelly
