OLD ORCHARD BEACH – Mary Barbara Christian passed away at her residence in Old Orchard Beach, Maine, on April 1, 2025. She was born in New Brunswick, New Jersey, on February 9, 1960.

Known to many as Marbie, she grew up in Milltown, NJ, and graduated from Our Lady of Lourdes School there. After graduating from St. Peter’s High School in New Brunswick in the class of 1978, she went on and graduated from Trenton State College (now The College of New Jersey) with a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology.

After graduation, Marbie lived and worked in Caldwell, NJ. Later, she moved to Westchester and, then, Goshen, New York before settling in Maine. She worked for Catholic Charities Maine in Portland and lived there as well as Yarmouth and Saco before retiring in Old Orchard Beach in 2017.

Marbie enjoyed reading and crocheting. She delighted in making baby clothes and blankets for various grand nephews and nieces and left a large library of books. She also liked to travel, having visited all fifty United States, all ten Canadian provinces and over fifteen countries in Europe as well as parts of Mexico.

She prized her privacy and autonomy while, at the same time, loved her family and showed it in myriad ways.

Christian, III (Joyce) of Portland, Michigan, Paul Christian (Deborah) of Saco and Marylee Rowan Evangelista (Ralph) of East Brunswick, New Jersey as well as seven nieces and nephews.

Private services will be held in New Jersey at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of the Conroy-Tully Walker Funeral Home of South Portland.

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. Marbie was a wonderful sister. She never inserted herself in others’ business but was always there if needed. She had good advise to render if asked and a caring shoulder to those who needed one. I will miss her greatly and pray that she is now in heaven with our parents and enjoying all that heaven can offer. Rest in peace my friend and big sister. You will not be forgotten.

  2. Marbie will always be synonymous with Love!!! Her generous spirit remains entrenched in my memory of her!! Her love and kindness were her most outstanding. May you find peace and serenity in knowing she’s held in the loving arms of God in Christ’s name.

  3. I have many fond memories of Marbie as a child. She was a bright ray of sunshine.May she rest in God’s arms and may her family find peace.

  4. Marbie was my Sisterfriend for over 45 years. We had the best times together! I loved her like family! We went camping, canoeing, sleep overs at each othe’s houses, parties, special events, etc. She was Aunt Marbie to my daughters and so on. She’ll always be in my prayers and in my heart. ❤ I will miss her very much.

  5. Our memories of Marbie at TSC were fun and full of laughter. So sorry. Our prayers go out to the family.

  6. Marbie was one of a kind. Wonderful. My memories of her are always positive. The world is a poorer place with her not in it.
