Perry Elwin Wood, 81, of Sanford, died Tuesday, April 1, 2025, at Maine Medical Center in Biddeford where he spent the day reminiscing with family and loved ones.
He was born March 9, 1944, to Lawrence and Arlene (Forrest) Wood in Sanford, ME. A graduate of Sanford High School, Perry devoted much of his life to public service, first working in the State’s surplus food program delivering food to those in need in Sanford and the surrounding communities, and later as a Manager in the Sanford branch of the Department of Human Services where he remained until his retirement in 2009. He was active in the community, serving many years in the Sanford Lions Club and the Sanford Democratic Party. He and his wife loved to cheer on the lacrosse and field hockey teams for which his daughter served as coach, and he was very proud of his book, a collection of short stories about growing up and being a parent. In later years, he enjoyed having spirited conversations at the Sanford Elks Club.
He was predeceased by his parents; his wife, Louise J. Wood, and one brother, Lawrence D. Wood. He is survived by a son, Michael L. Wood (Raina Ames) of Lee, NH, a daughter, Marcia L. Wood (Lisa Goldberg) of Portland, brothers William Wood (Marsha) of Harrison, Frank Wood of Saco, sister Linda Hunt (Adriennne Turner) of Hollis, and Sister-In-Law Debbie Ward. He is also survived by nieces Shelley Taylor (Chris) of Bath, Amanda Stanchek of Saco, and nephews Zachary Hunt (partner Jill) of Kennebunk, Sam Wood (Lindsay) of Saco, and cousins Deborah Hunt and Paula Calimano.

At his 80th Birthday, I saw that same look again, when the Lone Ranger was discussed. He literally up like a kid in a candy store and limitless money.
So, I will remember him in those moments, talking about the Lone Ranger and finding his happiness.
This one’s for you Perry.
Hi-Yo, Silver!!!!
Hi-Yo, Silver
He stopped loving her today!!
I’ll always treasure our chats at the Elks—moments filled with stories, wisdom, and plenty of laughter. Perry had a way of turning every conversation into something truly special.
Rest easy, Perry. You’ll be missed, but never forgotten.
My deepest condolences to the family and friends of Perry. Rest easy.
We had many conversations and debates over the years. We agreed that we disagree with our political views but we always ended when we left with a “I Love You Man”!
You were always someone I’ve respected and shared many, many laughs as well!
I’ll very much miss our conversations!!
RIP my friend!
