Scarborough – Carol Bradley Spencer, lovingly known as “Mammy” by her family and friends, peacefully passed away on March 24, 2025, at the age of 86. She was born on August 12, 1938, to Raymond and Esther (Farrar) Bradley in Augusta, Maine, where her warm and kind-hearted nature first blossomed. Carol enjoyed the farm she grew up on where she was pulled around in a little cart by her pet billy goat. She especially loved the family barn dances, where she learned to do the polka from her Polish neighbors. While their farm was not luxurious, the Bradley family was full of love, creating close bonds among the siblings and cousins. After selling the farm, the Bradleys moved to outer Eastern Avenue (aka The Togus Road) where their childhood home is still owned by her brother Mike’s family.
Carol attended Cony High School in Augusta, Maine and was known for her dedication to her studies and her business classes. This well prepared her for her career in banking, and the eventual formulation of a truck part business with her husband Don. After Don and Carol sold the business, she went on to work as a medical assistant for Doctor John Kaziliois, DO and his wife Thymia. This was a fitting end of career path for someone with her selflessness and generous spirit that touched the lives of all who knew her. In retirement, Carol was an active member of her community, running bingo for the Scarborough Community Seniors, and boarding the senior bus for the ‘Out to Lunch Bunch.’ She also loved spending time at Romeo’s and Sea Dog Brewing, where she formed close friendships with patrons and staff alike.
A dedicated and loving grandmother, Carol always supported her grandchildren. She never missed a hockey game, travel tournament, soccer game, or competitive dance event. Carol and Don were counted among the original season ticket holders for The Portland Sea Dogs, starting with the inaugural season in April of 1994 and they continued to do so for the next 20 years. Carol also loved cheering on Tom Brady and the New England Patriots. Carol took the plunge and shifted her allegiance to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, when Brady left to play for them. Carol named her beloved dog, not just Brady – but Tom Brady. She found joy in simple pleasures and always had a smile and a hug to offer. Her nurturing presence will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Carol is preceded in death by her sister, Janet Quinn and her husband Dave; brother, Michael Bradley; and her great granddaughter, Lou Milligan. She is survived by her devoted husband of 66 years, Donald; daughter, Jill; grandchildren, Sean, Victoria, and Tegan; great grandchildren, Chloe, Owen, Crosby, and Austin. She is also survived by her brothers, George in California and David in Florida; sister-in-law, Barbara Bradley of Pittston; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. A special thank you to her nephew, Carl Spencer, who was a big help for Don with Carol’s transportation and treatment, and anything else that they required. An additional thank you to Carol’s niece, Dawn Croteau, who called her aunt frequently, and stepped in to cover for Jill when she needed to be elsewhere.
Visiting hours will be held from 4-7pm on Wednesday, April 2, at the Conroy-Tully Walker Funeral Home of South Portland, 1024 Broadway. A funeral service will begin at 2pm on Thursday, April 3, at the Conroy-Tully Walker Funeral Home of South Portland. A private burial will occur at a later date. Deepest sympathies to Don, Jill and family from the Sea Dog Brew Pubs and the Carrier family.
Hey Don, I’m so sorry to learn of Carol’s passing. I have so many fond memories of you of you both when you had your truck parts business. Carole, my wife at the time and I, used to join you and Carol at your home back when we had a wonderful relationship, much more than the business relationship we enjoyed while I was VP of Bisson Truck Center in W. Bath. You had been instrumental in setting up Bisson’s parts department, and it was during that period when you and Carol grew to be dear friends. Sadly, once I retired from Bisson in 1999 and relocated to Greenville, we lost contact. My thoughts and prayers are with you, Don, and I wish you well. -Bob
Oh was sad to hear of Carols passing. I was just thinking of her today when I was in Hannaford . I used to see her in her walker and Don following her. I just loved her.. she was so sassy and funny. I waited on them for years at The Good Table.
We are so sorry for your loss.
Our fondest memories center around the countless hockey games and school events we would always see her at. Carol had an amazing love for family, an incredible sense of humor and a wicked laugh😉 She was so much fun to sit with at games.
