Richard W. Powers

January 10, 1967 ~ March 19, 2025

Born in: Braddock, Pennsylvania
Resided in: Sanford, Maine

Richard W. Powers, aged 58, peacefully passed away at home on March 19th, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born on January 10, 1967, in Braddock, PA. He grew up and graduated from Dover High School in Dover, NH in 1985. He moved to Maine in 1997, first to Biddeford and recently to Sanford.

He was the eldest son of Olivia and Lou Corrales and brother to Gina Corrales Sonnik and her Husband Steven Sonnik, Louis Corrales and his wife Christine Sonnik.

Predeceased by his brother James “Jamie” Powers.

For the past 28 years, Richard and his partner in life, Juanita Gagne, created a loving and happy chaotic home with her children Dylan Gagne and Britney Gagne, and had many days filled with laughter, sarcasm and love. He loved both very much. He has a special place in his heart for his nieces and nephews and their precious children. Aiden and Peyton, children of brother Jamie. His niece Kaitlyn, nephew Christopher and wife Erica and their children, Colt, Joshua, and Jordan. Nephew Steven and his wife Krista, and their children Gavin, Nevaeh, Vivian, and especially Alivia.

One of his happiest moments was the day he met Britney’s son Kylo and was hopeful to meet his brother Crew in May. Nothing made him smile more than the kids and their happy chaos.

Rick was truly a social butterfly and a people person who loved to talk. He has a memorable giving personality and left an impression wherever he went. He loved to go fishing and this was something he thoroughly enjoyed doing with Dyan and anyone else he could drag down to the river with him.

He prided himself on having a green thumb and would share his vegetables and roses with friends and neighbors. He was an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers and true crime television.

His faith was strong, and his heart was true. He wanted to pass on this faith to his people in the program and them for their love and support.

In his honor, we ask you all to just spread kindness.

A special thanks to all his cancer specialists in Maine and Pennsylvania, and the support of Hospice of Southern Maine during his final days.

A celebration of life is being planned and will be announced shortly.

“God grant me serenity to accept the things I cannot change, Courage to change the things I can, and Wisdom to know the difference.”

Arrangements are under the direction of the Black-Heald Walker Funeral Home of Sanford-Springvale.
