Dorothy Rosalie Bunker Dubowick It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Dorothy. She died on February 21, 2025 in her home at the age of 99. She was born in South Gouldsboro, Maine; the daughter of Fritz Hugh Bunker and Thelma Potter Bunker. Dorothy graduated as valedictorian from Winter Harbor High School in 1943. During her high school years, she served as the organist in her neighborhood church and music continued to give her great joy throughout her life. She furthered her education at Colby College, graduating in 1948 with a Bachelor of Arts and a Registered Nursing Degree. It was this same year that she married James J. Dubowick in the Church of the Holy Redeemer in Bar Harbor, and then moved to Scarborough to raise their two sons and daughter. In 1970 she graduated from the University of Southern Maine with a Master’s Degree and attended Boston University for additional studies. In her professional life, Dorothy began her career as an instructor in Nursing Education at Maine General Hospital; and then while raising her three children, she worked as a Registered Nurse at Maine Medical Center in the Special Care and Intensive Care Units. Later she moved on to the University of Southern Maine, where she served as an Associate Professor of Nursing Education. She then continued to teach in the Graduate Program of Counselor Education. Dorothy’s heart was forever touched by the loss of her beloved son, Peter Matthew and her husband, James. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Paul and Walter Bunker and her sisters, Francis (Irene) Pilch and Mary Millett. Dorothy is survived by her son, Michael Dubowick of Scarborough, Maine, and her daughter Jane Taylor and her husband Bill of Claremont, New Hampshire. For those she left behind, she was not only a devoted mother but also a proud grandparent to her granddaughters, Jennifer T. Linden and her husband Thomas of Berkshire, Vermont and Kathleen T. Ziff and her husband Adam of Hebron, Connecticut. She cherished her four great- grandsons, Emmett and Sawyer Ziff and James and Noah Linden. Dorothy positively impacted the lives of many through her family, her profession, and her unwavering commitment to education. Her spirit will forever live on in the hearts of her loved ones and all those fortunate enough to have known her. In her memory, donations can be given to the South Gouldsboro Cemetery Association, c/o Judith Hooper, 60 Cards Crossing, Franklin, Maine 04634 A private graveside service will be held this Spring at the Bunker Memorial Cemetery, South Gouldsboro, Maine.
