Ted (E.J.) Cloutier, 83, of Sanford, died January 11 at the Goodall Hospital in Sanford following a brief illness.He was born in Springvale on June 17, 1923, a son of Ladislas and Marie Rose (Charpentier) Cloutier and attended local schools.Ted served in the medical corps of the US Army during World War II.He was employed over the years with the Sanford Dairy, Simplex Wire in Portsmouth, NH, as a foreman with Sandell Corp., 15 years at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, Pioneer Plastics and with electrician Ernest Tardif.Ted was with the Sanford Fire Department call company for 20 years, retiring as the Captain of Engine 2. During this time he also served as a deputy with the York County Sheriff's Department.He was a communicant of Holy Family Church.Active in many local clubs, his memberships included the Knights of Columbus, the Lafayette Social Club, the Elks Lodge, the American Legion, the VFW, the Wolves Club and the Springvale Social Club.His wife, the former Yvette Cote, died in 1998.Survivors include his brother Gerard "Joe" Cloutier of Springvale, 2 sisters, Eva Martel of Saco, Therese Morin of San Antonio, TX, and several nieces and nephews including Ron Cote of Shapleigh, Rachel Cloutier Johnson of W. Bath and Mark Cote of Springvale.Visiting hours will be held on Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the Lafrance-Lambert & Black Funeral Home, 29 Winter Street, Sanford. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at 1:00 PM at St. Therse of Lisieux Parish, Holy Family Church in Sanford. Burial will be in the spring in St. Ignatius Cemetery in Sanford.Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 343 Gorham Road, Portland, ME 04106.
