Glendon Earle Clarke, 87, of Sanford, passed away on Saturday July 11, 2015 at the Southern Maine Health Care in Sanford. He was born on September 30, 1927, in Springvale a son of the late Walter and Elvah (Pence) Clarke.Glen was a lifelong resident of Sanford, Maine who served in the Navy in World War II. For 35 years he was very active in the Sanford Fire Department as a volunteer fireman, 15 of which he was Deputy Chief; he was a certified fire instructor and Sanford Fire Commissioner. Glen's elected positions included Saint Thomas School Board, Sanford Board of Selectmen and Water District Trustee. He served as an officer in several social organizations including President of the Sanford Town Club, President of the Rotary Club, Vice Chairman of the United Way and a member of the Kiwanis Club. Glen enjoyed playing poker, belonged to the Bridge Club and was an avid golfer. Glen is predeceased by first wife Laurianne (Bernier) Clarke, sons Blaine & Timothy Clarke, daughter Marcia Sanders. Glen is survived by his loving wife Jane. His grandchildren: Laura Clarke-Giberson; Isaiah & Maritza Sanders; Mitzi Totten; Sadie Sanders-Gal & Matan Gal; Sara & Jason Vivier; Corie & Travis Crane; Elizabeth Sockbeson; Alisa Garrett; Sean Garrett; Brittany Burke; Olivia Burke; Zachary Clarke; Selena Clarke; Kerry & Mark Marhefka; Christian McPherson; Jennifer McPherson; John McPherson; Nicholas Young; Sara & Robert Creamer; Emily Peele; Michael Peele; Matthew McPherson; Mallory McPherson; Sam McPherson; Joe McPherson. Great grandchildren: Piper & Rowan Giberson; Ellis Totten; Beckett Vivier; Amelia & Charlotte Crane; Rebecca & Benjamin Marhefka; Isabelle & Wyatt Young; Ella & Addie Creamer.Visiting hours will be on Thursday, July 16th from 4 to 7PM at the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home, 580 Main Street. A funeral service will be celebrated on Friday at 11AM at the Curtis Lake Christian Church, 38 Westview Drive in Sanford.
