Rene E. Chevalier, 71, a lifelong resident of Sanford, died on Wednesday, June 14, 2017 at his home in Sanford. He was born on March 17, 1946 to Alphonse and Rose (Morin) Chevalier in Sanford where grew up and attended local schools, graduating from St. Ignatius High School in 1964.After graduating, he served in the United States Navy. Upon returning, he was employed at Eastern Plastics in Sanford. He then worked at Morning Star Corporation which is now Corning in Kennebunk for many years and retired from there. He also spent a few years working at Cyro in Sanford.He married Kathleen Varney in 1975 and together they raised two sons.Rene was involved in the Sanford Fish and Game club for many years, and when he was younger he and his brother Arthur built stock cars and raced them at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway in Scarborough.Some of the things he enjoyed were going to Beech Ridge with his son Scott, shooting guns, and participating in shooting events with his son Barry. He was also a fan of the New England Patriots and the Boston Red Sox, and he loved his cat Muffin.He is predeceased by his parents and wife of 34 years, Kathleen Chevalier who passed in 2009.Survivors include two sons, Scott Chevalier, of Sanford, and Barry Chevalier and his wife Stacey, of Sanford, a brother Arthur Chevalier and his wife Sandy of Lake Wales, FL, a brother Edgar Chevalier of Sanford, a nephew Robert Chevalier and his wife Sheila, of Sanford, a niece Christine Pierson and her husband Mark of Saco, and a niece Sandy Allen, of Sanford.Visiting hours will be held on Monday, June 19, from 6:00 P.M to 8:00 P.M. at Lafrance-Lambert & Black Funeral Home, 29 Winter St. in Sanford.
