Georgia McDonald Chapman, 96, of Sanford, died January 20 in Portland after a short illness.She was born in Portland on June 4, 1919, the daughter of Josephine B. McDonald. She grew up in Waterboro and spent some of that time living with the Shakers in Alfred.Georgia married Orrin L. Chapman on June 1, 1936. She had been employed over the years with the Sanford Dress Company and Nike Shoe. Later, she worked at Waban where she cooked for the residents she loved.Georgia was a member of the First Baptist Church in Springvale where she helped with meals, the food pantry and the church fairs.She enjoyed caring for her flower gardens, her house plants, sewing, crocheting and reading.Georgia is predeceased by her husband, two sons, Frank O. Chapman, Earl H. Chapman and by 2 grandsons Douglas Chapman and Rick Brooks.Survivors include her son Gary C. Chapman and his wife Joan of Brownville, grandchildren Holly Carter, Misty Killeen, Karyn Royer, Janet Brooks, Ronald Brooks, Jill Brooks and 10 great grandchildren.A Celebration of Her Life will be held on Monday, February 8 at 11:00 AM at the First Baptist Church in Springvale with the Rev. Michael Lauziere presiding. Burial will be in the spring at Pine Grove Cemetery in South Waterboro.Arrangements are under the direction of Black Funeral Homes & Cremation Service, Sanford-Springvale.
