Paul D. Champagne, 68, of Sanford, died Tuesday, August 22, 2006 at the H.D. Goodall Hospital in Sanford.Paul was born in Springvale on August 5, 1938 to Osias and Yvonne Landry Champagne and attended local schools. Music was a big part of Paul's life. He especially loved music from the 1950's and had a very large collection of albums from that era. Paul enjoyed watching sports and was an avid fan of both the Red Sox and the Patriots.One of Paul's favorite activities was going to the pier down at Old Orchard Beach. He enjoyed going down there to watch the many people and especially loved eating the pier fries. Paul looked forward every year to Christmas and his birthday. As soon as one of these events would pass, he would begin planning for and talking about the next one. He was a very lovable and genuine person. He had a warm and generous personality that people found endearing wherever he went. Paul had many friends at 9 Elm Street in Sanford where he lived and enjoyed spending time with them. He was a devoted Catholic and a member of Notre Dame Church in Springvale. He will be remembered for his kind and loving nature and will be deeply missed by his family and friends. Paul was predeceased by his sister, Claire Bergeron who died in 2005. Surviving is a sister, Marguerite Sladen of Sanford; an uncle, Reginald Landry of Springvale; a brother-in-law Lionel Bergeron of Sanford; 6 nieces, Marguerite Smith of Sanford, Mary-Elise Alexandre of Springvale, Patrice Pierce of Waterboro, Melissa Bergeron of Portland, Angela Elliot of Farmington, New Hampshire and Rebecca Gaillard of Sanford; 5 nephews, Peter Bighope of Prospect, ME, Anthony White of Springvale, Andrew White of Sanford, William White of Lyman and Matthew White of Sanford and many great-nieces and great-nephews.A Funeral Mass will be held 1:00 PM at Notre Dame Church in Springvale on Friday, August 25, 2006. Burial will take place following at Notre Dame Cemetery in Springvale. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions in Paul's name be sent to Waban Projects, Inc., 5 Dunaway Drive, Sanford, Maine, 04073.
