Rose Hamel Carpentier
Rose Hamel Carpentier, 88, of Sanford, died on Saturday, March 16, 2019 at the Newton Center in Sanford.Rose was born on June 19, 1930 to Louis and Olivia (Fillion) Hamel in Sanford where she grew up and attended local schools, graduating from St. Ignatius High School in 1949. In 1949 she married Andre Roger Carpentier and together they shared 57 years of marriage until his death in 2007. During her working life, Rose was employed at the local shoe shops and then for Thomas and Betts where she stayed for many years until her retirement.When they were young, Rose and her husband owned a summer camp on Shaker Pond in Alfred where they enjoyed swimming, outdoor games and playing cards. There was almost always a game of card going with neighbors and anybody else who showed up at the camp. After the camp was sold, Rose spent a lot of her time at the YMCA in Sanford swimming laps in the pool. She also enjoyed taking gambling trips to the Casino in New Jersey and playing cards on the weekend with her sister Julia. Rose was predeceased by her husband, Andre Roger Carpentier; two brothers, George Hamel and Richard Hamel; a nephew, Brian O'Connor and a niece, Michele Carpentier.Surviving are her sister, Julia Hamel Carpentier; a sister-in-law, Marie Gauvereau Hamel; 14 nieces and nephews, Rachel Carpentier, Claire Cabana, Denise Sillon, Vivian Carpentier, Mark Carpentier, Paul Carpentier, Doris Lynch, Patrick Hamel, Michelle O'Kane, Kevin O'Connor, Doreen Callahan, Michael Hamel, William Hamel and Karen Paradis.Visitation will be held at the Lafrance-Lambert & Black Funeral Home, located at 29 Winter Street on Thursday, March 21st from 4:00 to 7:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Friday, March 22nd at St. Therse of Lisieux Parish, Holy Family Church, located on North Avenue in Sanford.
