Louise I. Caron
Louise graduated from Sanford High School with the class of 1944 and then attended Maine General Hospital School of Nursing. She graduated in 1947 and worked as an operating room nurse at Maine General Hospital. The operating room was probably her favorite job in the nursing field. It was challenging and according to the stories she told it was never boring. Another role she was very proud of was becoming a member of the Cadet Nurses Corps. During her busy career she met and fell in love with Donald Caron. Soon after they met, Don was shipped overseas during the Korean Conflict. Shortly after his return state side, they were married on Thanksgiving day, November 27th, 1952. They shared 65 years of marriage until he predeceased her on Oct. 17, 2017.While raising a family of six children, Louise became charge nurse at Hillcrest Manor where she remained until her retirement over 25 years later. According to some of her fellow employees, Louise ran a tight ship and the well being of the residents was first and foremost in her eyes. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting, often making hats and mittens for children in need. She knitted and donated hundreds of items over the years. With her Italian background it is no surprise she loved to cook. Her children loved her cooking, especially her homemade ravioli, blueberry buckle, meatballs, stuffed meat, and a variety of baked goods. Her beverage of choice was Moxie. At times it would appear she kept Moxie in business, because she enjoyed it so much. She even attended the Moxie festival one year and wore her Moxie shirt proudly. Her love of sports was a bond with her husband but also a bone of contention. Louise was a New York Yankees fan while Don loved his Red Sox. The family would love to see the competition between Don and Louise whenever the 2 teams would face off.Her love of family was obvious. She always had smile on her face whenever her children would visit. Later the grandchildren were the ones that stole her heart and as the family grew so did her heart. Before her death she had 14 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and was looking forward to the birth of 3 more great grand children early next year. Religion played an important role in Louise's life. She was a faithful and active member of Holy Family Church.Louise was predeceased by her husband Donald, siblings, Helen Wilkins, Rita Precourt, Frances Hevey, Robert Brocato and son- in- law Rick Libbey. She is survived by her six children, daughters Donna Caron Gallant and her husband Mark, Frances Caron Libbey, Marion Caron Fromwiller and her husband Tom; sons, Stephan Caron and wife, Margaret Sevigny Caron, John Caron, and Daniel Caron and wife April Shakley Caron.
