Kay Caramihalis
Katherine "Kay" Caramihalis passed away on November 6th at home surrounded by her family after a difficult and courageous battle with breast cancer.Kay was born in Salem, Massachusetts and moved to Maine after marrying John Caramihalis of Springvale. They wonderfully raised five children who then provided Kay with 14 grandchildren and a great grandson. Coming from a large Greek family, John and Kay instilled in their kids the power and importance of family. She had a successful professional career as a business owner in Sanford by starting and operating multiple assisted living facilities. Over the years the Parkview Homes proudly cared for Sanford's elderly population. After the death of her husband John in 1991, Kay retired from the Parkview Homes in 1998 and enjoyed gardening, cooking and family get-togethers for her large family.In addition to her husband, Kay was predeceased by her daughter Joanne Metz who died of cancer at the age of 51 and by her siblings Louis Pappamihiel, Andrew Pappamihiel and Steve Pappamihiel. Kay is survived by her daughters Ann Cutten of Shapleigh, Jae Caramihalis Simonds of Springvale, Marcia Pitcher of Portland, her son John Caramihalis, Jr. of Alfred,her longtime companion John Bourassa and four sisters, Amelia Danikas, Georgia Konomos, Christine Cralle, Dorothy Therianos of Alfred and her grandchildren and great grandson.Relatives and friends are invited call on Sunday from 2 to 5 PM at the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home, 580 Main Street, Springvale. A memorial service will be conducted on Monday at 12:00 noon at the Curtis Lake Christian Church, Westview Drive, Sanford.Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider reaching out to your loved ones and extended family members and let them know how much they mean to you.Arrangements are under the direction of Black Funeral Homes & Cremation Service, Sanford-Springvale.
