SANFORD Robert W. Cameron 78 died at his home Sunday following a long illness. He was born in Boston Dec. 30, 1927 a son of John & Isabelle (Partridge) Cameron, and was educated there. Mr. Cameron started his working career at age 15 to help support the family of seven following the untimely death of his father.He later enlisted in the Navy at age 17 years 11 months and served during WW II and was released in July 1946.Mr. Cameron met & married Claire (Hansen) in 1948. They raised three daughters and also shared their home with foster children. He and his late wife owned and operated a small motel in Stoughton, (MA) for 31 years before retiring to Sanford, (ME) in 1985.Robert was a communicant of St. Ignatius Church and was a member of the Square Pond Association of Shapleigh for many years, as well as serving several positions on the Treasure Island Association.He enjoyed animals, horseback riding, boating, snowmobiling, and waterskiing well into his 60's. Most of all, he was happiest when surrounded by his family.Robert was predeceased by his wife of 53 years, Claire (Hansen) Cameron in 2001 and one brother.Survivors are his three daughters, Nancy Jarrett and her husband Jeff of Middleboro MA, Jayne Stoltz of Gardendale, AL, and Robbin Therrien and her husband Mark of Sanford. Ten grandchildren, Jason Joyal, Joshua & Rebecca Stoltz all of Gardendale, AL, Matthew Therrien & Megan Quackenbush of Waterboro, and Melissa Therrien of Sanford, Brendon, Chris, Tyler & Joseph Jarrett all of Middleboro, MA. Two Great Grandchildren, Amber Therrien of Sanford & Alex Joyal of AL. along with two brothers, and three sisters.Visiting hours will be Wednesday Dec. 20 from 2-4 & 6-8 PM at the Lafrance-Lambert & Black Funeral Home, 29 Winter St., Sanford. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 :30 AM Thursday in St. Ignatius Church.
