Donald F. Burke

Donald F. Burke, 72, of Sanford, died at his home on Wednesday, September 12, 2012 after a long struggle with pancreatic cancer. Donald was born in Waltham, Massachusetts on July 7, 1940 to James and Alice (Doherty) Burke. He grew up in Watertown and Belmont, Massachusetts and attended local schools, graduating in 1960 from Newton Technical High School as an auto mechanic. Donald had owned several businesses during his life which included a gas, service and repair station in Wilmington, MA.and Shawsheen Tire in Billerica and Tewksbury, MA. He was also employed by Coca-Cola. Donald retired from Raytheon where he worked for many years as a security guard. He was a member of the Elks Lodge in Winchester, MA. Donald moved from Lexington, Massachusetts to Kennebunk several years ago before finally settling in Sanford. He took great pride in his 1973 Chevy Caprice convertible. Donald will be deeply missed by his family and many friends who stood by him during his lengthy illness. Surviving are his daughter, Kimberly Burke of Cape Neddick; cousins, Carolyn (Doherty) Christensen of Middleboro, MA, Frank Doherty and his wife Karyn of Tiverton, RI, Robert Lewis Kiley of Ocala, FL, John Dewey Kiley of North Carolina and David Joseph Kiley of Cromwell, CT, and his former spouse, Linda Laskey of Melrose , MA . Visitation will be held from 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM on Saturday, September 29th at the Lafrance-Lambert & Black Funeral Home, 29 Winter Street, Sanford. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 AM at St. Therse of Lisieux Parish, Holy Family Church, 66 North Avenue in Sanford .
