Rita "Chickie Bubbles" Brown, 75, of Sanford died at the South Ridge Rehabilitation and Living Center in Biddeford on Monday, August 31, 2009.Rita was born in Alfred on December 28, 1933 to Harold and Edith Littlefield Day and attended the Hamlin School in Springvale. During her working life she was employed at the H.D. Goodall Hospital in Sanford. She worked in the kitchen and as a candy striper.Rita was very social person who enjoyed eating out and visiting with family and friends. She was a member of Curtis Lake Christian Church in Sanford. She took a lot of pride in her appearance and was always very particular in making sure that all of her clothing matched. Rita enjoyed spending time with her siblings and particularly liked going to the beach with her sisters. She was a very generous woman and was always looking for gifts for people that she knew. She will be remembered as a very positive and upbeat woman. She was a loving mother, grandmother and sister and will be dearly missed by her family and friends.Surviving are two children, Michael Brown of North Carolina and Pamela J. Brown of Springvale; four grandchildren; eight siblings, Violet Ricker of Alfred, Russell H. Day of Shapleigh, Valerie Binette of Alfred, Ermont "Sammy" Day of Springvale, Shirley Roux of Alfred, Betty Hachey of Springvale, Joyce Goodfield of Wells and Ferne Penney of Shapleigh.Visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:00 AM on Thursday, September 3rd with a funeral service taking place at 11:00 AM at Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home, 580 Main Street in Springvale. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Springvale.The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the staff at South Ridge Rehabilitation and Living Center in Biddeford for the care and compassion shown to Rita during her stay.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the South Ridge Rehabilitation and Living Center Activities Fund, 173 South Street, Biddeford, ME 04005.To leave a message of condolence for the family please click on the condolences tab to the left.
