Richard E. Brooks

Richard E. Brooks, Sr., 73,of Sanford and Port Orange, Fl, passed away on Tuesday May 12, 2009 at his daughters home following a long illness. He was born in Springvale on June 29, 1935, a son of Harry and Georgia (Fall) Brooks. He attended local schools graduating from Sanford High School.He was a member of the Springvale Social Club and the Sanford Elk's Lodge. He was a referee and umpire with youth athletics, S.S.Y.A.A. and the Babe Ruth League. In 2005 he retired from the Volusia County School District where he had been employed as a bus driver.He is predeceased by his parents, Harry and Georgia Brooks, one son, Richard E. Brooks, Jr., one grandson, Curtis Johnson, and one sister, Lois Pay.Survivors include his wife, Linda Brooks of Port Orange, Fl, children, Janet Brooks, of China, Ronald Brooks of Waterboro, Jill Brooks of Sanford, stepson, Robert Brin of Port Orange, Fl, Karen Brooks of Port Orange, Fl, Audrey Brooks of Port Orange, FL, two grandsons, Sean Johnson of Sanford, Jakob Brooks of Waterboro, one granddaughter, Nakeshia Diop of China, and one great granddaughter, Lily Morse of Sanford as well as several nieces and nephews.A Graveside service will be held on Wednesday May 20th at 11AM at Riverside Cemetery in Springvale.Arrangements are under the direction of the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home, 580 Main Street, Springvale.To leave the family a message of condolence please use the "condolences" tab to the left.
