Lorraine G. Boucher, 85 passed away peacefully surrounded by family on January 12, 2019 at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House. She was born in Sanford, Maine on February 12, 1933 to Frank Xavier Boucher and Marie Louise Lambert Boucher. She was predeceased by her parents and her brother Arthur R. Boucher. Our precious Aunt Lorraine enjoyed her life based on helping others including her love of animals. Humble, patient and kind. The most selfless person we will ever know. She will forever be in our hearts! She attended Holy Family Elementary School and St. Ignatius High School in Sanford, recipient of the Ursuline Cross of Honor. Following graduation Lorraine entered the Ursuline Novitiate in Belgrade, Maine. In 1955 Lorraine was a Founding Member of the Sisters of the Devine Spirit, Foundation of Archbishop John Mark Gannon in Erie, PA. She attended Villa Maria and Gannon Colleges in Erie, PA and Catholic University of America. She taught elementary school at Holy Rosary and St. John schools in Erie. She was later named Superior and Director of the Warren County Catechetical Center encompassing nine county parishes, and was named Community Director of CCD. Lorraine served as Activity Director and Director of Volunteers for the community's new home for Senior Citizens, the House of Loreto in Canton, OH. There she trained and directed hundreds of Loreto Teens (Candy Stripers) as well as adult volunteers. She was the Editor of the Home's "Spirit of Loreto" and conducted two courses for the Confirmation Classes of the Lutheran Church which she developed and entitled "An Experience in Christian Work" based on the Hidden Life of Christ. Lorraine returned to Sanford, ME in 1973. In May of 1975 she became Executive Director of the Sanford-Springvale American Red Cross with the accompanying challenge of rebuilding the chapter comprised of 4 towns. The total budget of the chapter at that time was $14,500. With permission from the United Way and the help of an Excellent Board of Directors, the chapter commenced fund raising and its budget grew steadily along with its size. In 1990 the chapter encompassed 29 towns with a budget of just under $100,000. Lorraine was recognized for her organizational abilities. Highpoints of her tenure included the year-after-year recognition of Excellence for the Chapter Blood Services awarded by the Northeast Regional Blood Program in Boston and Dedham, MA, a tribute to the excellent leadership of Volunteer Chairpersons Ruth Leipold and Dr. Donald Warner, and its 400+ volunteers. The chapter was honored by the presence of Richard Schubert, then President of the American National Red Cross, at its 50th Anniversary Celebration. The chapter also distinguished itself in disaster services, never failing to respond to country-wide family disasters. Lorraine was known to meet the immediate needs of all disaster victims as well as their rehabilitative needs (including eyewear, dentures, hearing aids, occupational tools, essential furniture, building materials...etc.), always with a few dollars in the treasury, armed only with faith in the Red Cross Mission, and a strong Catholic faith that God would provide. Donations always followed to allow her to pay all bills in time. Lorraine was presented the Tiffany Award, Manager's Award for Employee Excellence, by Division Manager David Snow.
